The one about feeling old all day
Happy Birthday to my baby girl Kristine. 31 year old today, and I sure feel old. How did this happen? Seems like just yesterday. And, her baby Hudson did his first legitimate crawl today, one day after I was no longer with them. Growl. Sorry I missed it.
Up early and broke camp quickly, before it downpoured for 10 minutes. I just made it inside after a quick goodbye to Ginnie and Kim; I will see them again in a week. The ride over the river and thru the woods to Lazydays RV resort was uneventful and easy.
Along the way I passed an unusual (to me) community called Mount Olive Shores. A blurb from their website:
Mount Olive Shores offers a truly unique style of living. It is a serene gated waterfront community restricted to Class "A" motorhome owners and is designed specifically for motorhome owners who desire owning their own lot surrounded by other owners who share compatible interests. A subdivision with a unique land plan and recorded deed restrictions that allow motorhomes and manufactured homes on the same lot. What does this mean? Well, it appeared that the community was broken down into very large campsites, perhaps 25x100. There were structures built on cement or brick pads that fit over a Class A Motorhome. Think a large roof on tall support posts. And, there were manufactured homes as well. Great idea, keeps the sun off the RV. There were hot tubs, sheds, covered places for cars to park on some lots. It actually looked alike a beautiful place! Here’s a link so you can check out some pictures.
http://www.mosloa.com/?q=node/8 Just as I finished my check in process I spied my dear friend Maureen Kelly walking up the sidewalk. She drove one hour from her home to spend the day with me. Accompanied by her Service Dog for the Deaf, Marley, a Bichon/Poodle mix, kind of apricot colored, a little yappy thing, but very very sweet.
Off to my #44 campsite and I parked with some difficulty. This is the place I bought my RV from, and learned how to drive and park it here, and I sure did fail. I think I was trying to show off for Maureen, and I failed. Feeling old.
Marley and Winston kind of hit it off, but not really. He is territorial and she was inquisitive. I plugged my electric in, and we took off for lunch at the nearby Outback, with Marley in tow. She sat quietly under the table, ate her food, drank her water and occasionally found a morsel of food tucked under the seats. I had a Bloomin Onion Burger, quite good actually, Maureen had steak salad, and we shared some decadent chocolate thingy for desert.
Maureen was then gracious enough to take me to a nearby Publix where I did my weekly grocery shopping. I now have enough food for a week.
Do you all know what Flat Stanley is? He is a construction paper figure usually made by second graders who is mailed to a relative who lives far away. Stanley has his picture taken at some landmark with the relative, and is mailed on, and on, and on, hopefully getting all 50 states in before his return by the end of the school year. It’s fun for the kids. Well, at my 50
th HS reunion we had a poster of our school mascot, the mustang, which we affectionately named Milton Mustang. Classmate Linda Jacobsen took him home, laminated him, and now he is being passed around the classmates for signature. Linda gave him to me since I expect to see other classmates while in FL, and then can meet up with some in NC before I pass him on to another classmate somewhere else. Milton lives under my mattress. Keep your sly comment to yourself, please. My next door neighbor camper was busy hooking up his smelly sewer connection, so we didn’t ask him, but we found a nice lady across the way who took our photograph. We laughed a whole lot.
The rest of the day I spent enjoying the warm weather, the wonderful wifi and just relaxing. I tried to really get into the Golden Globes, but I am beginning to wonder if I am too old to watch these types of shows anymore. I don’t understand the Fey/Poehler comedy. I don’t know the shows or movies or casts of either. The classy people still look classy, and that translates to more mature guests and presenters, but some of the outfit on the younger ones made me cringe. As I said in my facebook post, I feel like the old maiden aunt who sits in the corner at family gatherings. I will just nod my head and pretend I understand, and enjoy the conversations in my head. At 9:00 I switched to Madam Secretary and will watch the Good Wife after and feel damn good about my choices. They don’t make me feel old.
