Ft Desoto County Park We woke to the alarm at 7:03 am, had coffee and proceeded to pack up the camper. I have been here for 2 weeks so there are things all over that need stowing. It wasn’t too long before the chairs were inside, the rug swept and snug in the bottom compartment. Some larger items found a home in the car and I was ready to start unplugging and saying good-bye. There were hugs for Ginnie, Joanne and Kat who were all leaving today also, everyone going someplace different. Dee and I are headed for Fort DeSoto County Park near St Petersburg. Saturday 24th December - Orlando to St Pete's Another early start and it was a frantic dash to the bus stop having called the bus company as soon as I got up and found out we had 20 minutes to pack up and get to the stop. 2 buses later and we were at the Orlando Amtrak station, home of a mere 4 train rides each day. Riding the Amtrak was like stepping back in time about 50 years and overall an enjoyable albeit yet again odd experience given you're in the richest country in the world. You check in your baggae and everyone is made to wait at virtually the same place on the 100 yard long platform. Een vakantie in een vakantie, zo voelde het een beetje. Alhoewel ik natuurlijk niet in Boston ben voor vakantie, maar voor de studie. Zondagmorgen (12/03) vroeg vertrokken we naar Florida. Helaas al wel vertraging omdat de Copiloot ziek in bed lag, uiteindelijk kwamen we een half uur later aan in Tampa. Vandaar een taxi genomen naar St. Pete Beach! Het hotel was schitterend, prima kamer, 400 m van het strand, 2 zwembaden en 2 bubbelbaden :) Eerst op het strand gaan liggen, maar door de harde wind op zondag, vlogen alle zandkorrels in de rondte, dus verhuisd naar het zwembad. Top, en dat was nog wel 1 van de koudere dagen. 's Avonds heerlijk gegeten bij het hotel met een overheerlijk dessert. We namen bijna altijd een dessert, dat we dan deelden met z'n 3en.
