One recent Saturday, if you were looking for us, we could be found at The Wagon Wheel Flea Market in Pinellas Park (near St. Petersburg). It was more than a hop, skip and jump away but we had it our bucket list of things to do this year. Sam was in his glory...he LOVES flea markets. Even though we are trying to not buy any more stuff....it's hard to give up the collecting bug altogether. We may need a stay at a rehab clinic to get this disease out of our systems. When traveling with Sam, there are a few ritual practices we have to do as we start out. First - go to Burger King and get a cheese, egg and sausage croissant. His favorite breakfast delight. Amateur radio operators, hams if you will, are a technical bunch. Updating and improving the station is an ongoing and sometimes expensive process. When you do update your station you suddenly have surplus equipment that still has great value. Just how do you make connection with other hams who might be looking for exactly the piece of equipment you have made surplus with your update? Wagons Ho...Roll on! Saturday in Florida is always a good flea market day so that is where we went. The Wagon Wheel/Mustang Flea Market is located in Pinellas Park. A couple years ago we stayed in this area (Madeira Beach) and frequented this market every Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday. It was like coming home again. It's a good size market with an area for junky yard sale collectibles (mostly junk), a million new China imports and rows after rows of assorted produce section. I love the produce section best because it feels like we have entered into another country. Masses of Asian folks are milling around, bartering in their own language and buying peculiar looking weeds, roots, vegetables and fish.
