Daytona to Orlando
Sunday morning I started out to prove something to myself. I set my alarm for 6:07 and wanted to be on the road by 7:30. Fortunately it wasn’t raining, but everything was covered with a heavy dew, but I did it! Walk Winston, shower, clean up outside and inside and sitting in the driver seat by 7:30.
First of Sunday’s pictures is one I forgot from Saturday. Ed McDevitt, a LOW I have met at campouts and Florilow Oaks, made these shrimp hors d’oeuvres for happy hour. Aren’t they cute, and the tray was fun!
First stop post office to mail my request for duplicate title to NJ for my Lexus. I have given up searching for it and wrote the check for $60 and hopefully it will be waiting for me when I return to NC so I can register it.
Next stop the ocean. Over the causeway and took a left and pulled into the first beach cutout I saw. Fortunately it was wide enough for me to be able to turn around. Winston and I walked to the water and back.
It was only 8:30, and no one else was there. This part of the beach allows vehicles, but that was something I did not want to try at all, and the tide was very high, and the hard packed sand was covered with water. I took a few pictures just to show you.
Continuing down I4 south and west with one stop at McDonalds for egg mcmuffin, and I was near my final destination at 11. Called Ginnie, she was just a little bit behind me, so I did a mini grocery run and continued slowly on and she caught up to me in the campground parking lot.
Thousand Trails, Orlando, is a huge resort with nice amenities and some nice campsites under trees, grass, patio, etc., and some not so nice, out in the ‘dust bowl’ on busy interior roadways. Ginnie went to unhook her towed car and I went to find campsite 41, in the dust bowl. It was filled with a 5
th wheel. Looked at Ginnie’s site, 20, close to mine, but behind me, and the sun hit it the wrong way, her dog pen would be out in the sun all day long, no
good. On my way back to the office I saw sites 37 and 39 open. I asked for them and was told they were unavailable due to the soft sand at the street, RVs get stuck in them. Back to find Ginnie and we went to look, yes, the sand was soft at the edges, but there was plenty of room to drive up on the grass and pull in without hitting the soft sand, so we went for it. That soft sand does make the dust bowl dustier for sure, but we are next to each other, there is a large tree, and Ginnie’s dog pen is in the shade; all is happy.
My neighbor across the road introduced herself and showed me the HUGE box of grapefruit in front of her rig, gift of her nearby sister, and told me to help myself. I took 2. Ginnie can’t eat them because she takes that cholesterol lowering med that you can’t eat grapefruit with.
It was a tough set up for both of us as we were both up early with very physical days; we collapsed at happy hour. (Juice of one grapefruit, about 6 ounces. About
6 ounces of Pomegranate Blueberry V8 splash, and a hefty enough dose of Belvedere to finish the bottle and I was even happier.
The dogs all get along fine. They seem to calm Winston down somewhat. George is a little perkier, it looks like the combination of anti-inflammatory and ½ an unknown pain pill makes him a happy camper, too.
It was warm enough to turn the a/c on for an hour or so just to cool off, but when the sun goes behind the trees, the temp drops at least 30 degrees. Pneumonia weather.
Dinner early, watched the last 15 minutes of the Giants game, some of American Idol and fell asleep and slept like a rock until 7.
Senior moment 1 of Monday. Got dressed in yesterday’s clothes to take Winston for a walk, and when I got back and looked at my TShirt, it was on inside out. What a goof.
We decided to go to SeaWorld for a few hours. For $87 you can buy a pass that is good until the end of the year. In the next 2 weeks we will go for a few hours at least twice,
and perhaps even 3 times, so it sure is worth it. Ginnie buys a season parking ticket, and off we went, leaving Winston in the nice cool a/c barking his head off.
We saw the Shamu show, a great event with lots of splashing. If you were sitting in the ‘splash zone’ you got wet. Lots of pictures. That one whale was so big! It’s a very natural show, no props, lots of positive reinforcement, and none of the trainers got in the water with the whales. We also saw an acrobatic show that was cute and clever, and watched the dolphins at the nursery. Back to the car for the 20 minute ride back to the campground with a quick stop at Walmart for Red Ant killer and a baby card and back at rigs at 2:30. Winston was not barking in the window. When I opened the door it was obvious he just woke up, but I knew he barked due to the massive amounts of new spittle on the window. But, all is safe and sound. He is sleeping outside now, not even disturbed by the sand hill cranes walking by the campsite. Go figure.
