Amazing nights sleep, woke up early and dragged a reluctant Alex out for a run/power walk. Headed off in the direction of the beach and were not disappointed, powdery white sand, blue sea and hundreds of Pelicans diving for an early fish breakfast. It is no coincidence why endangered sea turtles return to nest and hatch here every summer, if I were a sea turtle I could think ofworse places to be.
Took a walk along the pier and were delighted to see two dolphins bobbing in and out of the water, the many fishermen along the board walk didn't give them a second glance, I guess it is such a regular occurrence, they are run of the mill, unlike us Europeans who get excited at anything bigger than a goldfish.
Found a super place for breakfast and coffee a funny little place called the Neighborhood cafe, run by Mum and daughter who delighted in telling us they spend the summer in Cambrils on the Costa Brava and love Spain so much, thats where their hearts are, I was tempted to negotiate a job/life swap but held myself back!
Ate a great breakfast and enjoyed a good cup of
American coffee, will be back tomorrow for sure.
Studied the map and decided to head for Marco Island, another super rich paradise but little beach access due to the large condos and resorts lining the beachfront. Found a little boat dock to take photos and chatted to a local guy taking his boat out fishing, amused at his wife helping him carry the small boat from the car roof, help him load it up with a days supplies and then wave him goodbye, noticed she didn't load his life jacket!
So over a week since we left Spain and we had done a load of laundry in the laundromat in Key West, new pants and socks were on the shopping list amongst other things. Attorney Drew had told us about a nearby outlet mall so put the address in Tom Tom and prepared the credit cards for a battering.
Arrived and true to form went our separate ways, him to the Ralph Loren store and me to the Converse store, now I love Converse sneakers as much as I love Havaiana flip flops, you can keep your Manolo Blahniks and Jimmy Choos, give me either of the
aforementioned items of footwear and I am in heaven! One reason for my preference is my ridiculously small feet, size 2 UK, 35 Spanish, heels just don't fit. A good thing about small feet though is I can buy kids size and pay no tax!! Found a fab pair with stars and stripes design, with elastic laces so you don't even have to lace them up! (Not sure if thats a funky convenience thing or the fact they are for kids who may not know how to tie laces??)
Met Alex in the RL shop with armfuls of polo tops in various colours, not to be left out, chose myself a top and delightedly tried on. a pair of size 5 (US) jeans, very surprised after the 'eatathon' I have so far embarked on.
Bought a new wheelie bag to carry it home!
With our lovely view and terrace and a kitchenette, we decided to buy some food and wine and dined self catering style in our room and watched back to back US property shows, you can take the estate agent out of the office.....
