The largest Gothic Cathedral in Europe was unbelievable. The attached picture of the gold chest contains the relic skulls of the Three Wiseman. We learned all about Kolsch beer. Kolsch has to be brewed within 30 miles of the city. We toured a jail, retention center and torture center/museum that the German Gastapo used during WW2 . Very moving. The night ended enjoying traditional German pub food followed by a visit to several local pubs that brewed Kolsch beer. There are 26 official Kolsch breweries in and around Cologne .No we did not get to all 26, but we did hit a few.... read more

What a great first couple days on our ship. The ship we are on is brand new launched in 2019 and our room is perfect. The ship has a top deck with an herb garden, putting green and lots of seating. The second floor has a very nice bar are with additional seating in front of the ship. The 1st level has a dining area both inside and out along with a reception area, coffee and bakery stations, and a small library and gift shop. Everyone has been super accommodating and the staff of 52 is great. We have 190 passengers on this ship. Most days we travel all night down the Rhine river then depart in the am after an early breakfast for local day trips. Our first stop on Wednesday was in the Black ... read more

Planning for such a long trip is mind-blogging...lots of things to take care of when you are running away from home! Excited and nervous all at the same time. Uploading a pic of the route/stops we will be experiencing along the way... we are jumping away from the ship a couple times to experience some of the countries for a greater time than the ship is in port. Our first "extra" jaunt will be in New Zealand. The ship is only in port for one day... we are staying for 3 days and catching back up in Sydney.... read more

Well here we go again! Loved our last "Great Alaskan Spring Adventure-2015" so much that we decided to do it again this year. This trip we will be heading West across the states stopping at Crazy Horse monument in South Dakota, through Wyoming into Yellowstone, then up through Idaho and Washington state before going into Canada. Once in Canada we will be heading up the Stewart Cassiar highway, also known as "The Gold Rush Route" which goes through the Yukon and up to Alaska. We will be flying out of Boston, Ma. on May 12th, along with the Cunningham's, one of the couples from our last adventure and long time travel companions. Three couples who winter at our community in Florida, Cedar Hammock, have also decided to embark on this adventure taking pretty much the same ... read more

It's all Ray's fault that we're about to embark on this 4400 mile trip on May 11, 2017. It all started just about 1 year ago at exercise class..."Quentin, we had the greatest RV trip to Alaska last year with 2 other'll love it!" Then, Quentin, Dorrie, Al, Sue, Tom, & Peggy took full responsibility from that point on. We contacted Great Alaskan Holidays and signed up to rent RVs and drive them to Anchorage, Alaska. We've now completed our tentative itinerary for 22 day trip from Forest City, Iowa to Anchorage, Alaska and we have "buy-in" from fellow travelers. Now we just have to figure out what to take with us!!! We fly to Minneapolis May 11, 2017 with planned pick-up by Great Alaskan Holidays on Friday, May 12, 2017 for bus trip to ... read more

blog 03-06-17 Everglades I had made reservations for a tram ride in Shark Valley which is a visitor center in the Everglades Nat'l Park. It is 1 hour from here and I had to be there by 9:30 am so it was an early morning. Watson was walked, breakfast with me and I was in the car by 8:15 am. The ride was a good one, south on 41 which is the Tamiani Trail, the old route from Naples to Miami, a 2 lane 60 mph road through the Everglades. There were a few Indian villages along the way and places where you could catch an air boat ride through the swamp but not much else, not even a gas station. I arrived at 9:30 to a line at the entrance and as I patiently waited ... read more
