Yep! Even the best of us can get struck down. That’s exactly what happened to “Bucky, Buckaroo, Big Fella, Mr.Lucky”…..you all know him mostly as just Cory. Well, Mr.Lucky (Cory) lost his luck temporarily. He has the dreaded Covid! Yep, he is full of the virus! Noooooooo. Here’s the scenario:
One evening he complained how hot it was…..anything to pump the air conditioner up to its highest…Freezing me out…..Brrrrrrr. In the night, I happen to roll over and touch him. Yikes! He felt like a burning, hot poker but was sleeping soundly. I thought about taking his temperature but it was a brief thought and I quickly fell back to sleep. ??? In the morning, I checked it and his temp was 99.3……not too alarming considering how hot he felt to the touch in the night. I’m still putting aloe on my hand. I was expecting @ 108! He said he felt fine…..he always poo-poo’s things off. The next day, he said his throat felt a little sore….uh-oh……..and he had a dry cough….double uh-oh!! Fortunately, we have several home test kits for Covid. After reassuring him I wasn’t going to do a lobotomy on him, I swabbed his nares and
completed the procedure……uh-oh……the test said he was positive! Of course, he didn’t believe it so we repeated the procedure again! And again….the test showed positive! Rats! Double rats! Read it and weep I’m afraid. Buckaroo went from footloose and fancy free to Bubble Boy! He has isolated himself in our bedroom and out in our contained canopy tent. Lulu and I have been in hiding and shielding ourselves from our lovable leper. I tested myself and miraculously came out negative….hallelujah! God lives! Fortunately, we both have had all our vaccines and booster. We were just preparing to get our second booster when this deadly disease struck. Because Cory had these shots, his symptoms were very mild and have already subsided but he’ll continue to isolate for awhile longer. We don’t want any one else to get sick. Yesterday, we both masked up and Cory drove me to a CVS drugstore where I got my 2nd booster…..hoping to ward off any infectious bugs he might want to share with me. I guess we did say “in sickness and in health”….but, but….I just want to stay healthy! I have found out that our couch is quite comfy and am able to fall
asleep easily. I kind of miss Mr. Hot Poker though. Lulu has moved to one of our compartments below our RV. It’s dark and lonely there but she feels safe…..remember she couldn’t get any shots cause she has no place to get them…with no body, she didn’t want a needle in her eye. Friends have stopped by to check on us….keeping their distance from our sick house as we holler back and forth to one another. Cory wears a mask as did one of our dear friends…(Dave).
This unexpected illness has created a sad dilemma. Our oldest daughter and family: Lory, Jay and Sara, have come to Florida for a visit. Fortunately, they arrived before Cory was struck down. We were able to spend a couple days with them and go out to eat together. But after that, we haven’t been able to see them. Cory and Jay were to play some golf together…..that didn’t happen. Even Tiger Woods is going to play golf again. They have managed to enjoy our timeshare condo and keep themselves entertained and relaxed. Who would have guessed?? Fortunately, we be with them again in about a month back in New York.
Our
morning coffee clatch has been temporarily suspended until Cory can be out in public again. The “Closed” sign is up. Our friends are beginning to head to their homes so we hope we can resume our get togethers soon. We miss them all.
In the days prior to living in our mobile sanitarium, we had some enjoyable times. Cory and I went to Disney Springs where I had my most favorite meal of all times…..can you guess? Of course, you can….the tuna melt at the Earl of Sandwich. It’s sooooo good.
Jim suggested that our coffee group gather together and meet one morning at Cracker Barrel. We all agreed that was a great idea. Of course, it was a very busy morning there so they seated our group at separate tables. We begged them not to but it fell on deaf ears. We were close but not close enough…next time!
Jill and Bob had a nice “Happy Hour” at their site one evening. It was fun being with friends in our park. Cory looks like he was holding court while we were there. Thanks, Jill & Bob.
I can’t let this blog go without mentioning that
Bubble Boy had his birthday on March 30th. Even though we have grown old together, I don’t believe either of us think of ourselves as “Old Folks!” Sandy brought a delicious banana pudding to coffee for all to enjoy…..Cory’s favorite. He swooned as we all sang Happy Birthday to him. He received presents that truly identify his likes…..I swear we should own stock in the Ruffles (Lays) company. The timing of his birthday was perfect. It fell on a day when the park was having one of its Pot Luck dinners. What a great way to celebrate his 78th birthday…..with friends from the park! Happy Birthday, Bucky!
In parting…..and in the words of Elaine Benes….”Get Well, Get Well Soon…We Want You To Get Well” Big Fella Cory. Staying Healthy Together!
