I promised you the photo of my knee innards....and now I’m coming through with my promise. My physician assistant, Christa, took this photo for me. Thank you, Christa, you did a fine job. This is a photo of my 2nd total knee replacement: the right knee this time. The bone you are looking at is my femur. The solid yellow area is cartilage (you want to have that there) ....the rough looking area is where I was walking bone on bone....OOWW! I told you it hurt! Folks called me Hobbling Hilda. I’m so glad I had this done and it’s behind me now. And I’m glad I only have two knees! Enough is enough. Thank you for supporting me through this last surgery. It truly made a good difference. My nurses, Cory and Lulu, have had to work extra hard this time around. I seem to be more needy.
This time around isn’t as much fun as the first time. I think I jinxed myself by bragging that I had no pain with the first knee....but it was the truth. This knee is letting me know I’ve had something done. I have much more flexibility and much less swelling than
the first knee....all good. But...the leg aches at times and I have surface soreness when I touch the skin on my knee. It’s all tolerable but I liked it better when I had NO pain! So did Cory & Lulu. My PA told me ahead of time I could probably experience a completely different experience and she was right. Rats! The doctor did a bit more with this knee than the other. Remember the cyst I had adjacent to my knee that I reminded him to remove....he did that. He also found a bone spur on my bone that he removed.....said I was probably born with it. I knew I had something there but it didn’t bother me so I didn’t bother it but I’m glad that sucker is gone. Thanks, Doc!
I’m into my fifth Physical Therapy visit. Miranda is my therapist and she is excellent. She did the work with me on my first knee. She offers understanding and compassion but makes sure I do everything I need to do to get this leg back in shape. It’s like my other leg never had anything done except for the typical line scar...thanks to Miranda. My first leg
had a lot of bruising and swelling....this leg, not so much.....just more discomfort. They put a big tourniquet around your thigh when they do the surgery.....it must have been on extra tight on my first leg....yikes. Look at that ecchymosis (bruise)!
I had the X-rays done when I went for my post-op visit 2 weeks after surgery. Buddy is the X-Ray tech and he’s great! He got me a second “Joint” shirt for this leg....green color this time....great for St.Pat’s Day! Christa removed my stitches....the zip ties. I tried to get it as a video but messed up. So you can kind of see what she did....grabbed the top of the plastic ties and just pulled it straight down......unzipped me! No more stitches. No pain with removing these either....yippee. She removed the small one over my cyst incision. Everything is good.....now my goal is to get my leg back in order which I know will be accomplished through the physical therapy. I showed my “innards” photo to the therapists. They loved it! One fellow studied it and studied it. I told him I would send it to him and he could use it as his screensaver.
Okay....this ends
the saga of my knee replacements. Just know, if you hear alarms going off in an airport, it might be me.....seek me out!
Cory and I feel very fortunate and healthy. We received our second and last Moderna vaccine yesterday. We shall still use our masks out in public but we are happy to have reached this goal. We hope all of you seeking this vaccine get yours on a timely basis. We went to a different locale for this shot...but not far away. They were somewhat disorganized but no matter, we were the first in line to get our shots. The car behind us seemed to draw some attention so when it pulled up next to us in the reaction waiting area, Cory got out to see who was in the car. Cool! There were two of the original Harlem Globetrotters in the car. They both got out and posed for my photos. Cory used a few of his old basketball moves around them. Impressive! The tallest guy was Bobby Hunter and the other “Shake N Bake” (Frank Streety). We didn’t even pay attention to any side effects we might have (we have had none) with all this
excitement going on. In 1963, Cory’s dad took us downtown Buffalo to see the Globetrotters. We remember Meadowlark Lemon, Curly, Goose Tatum, Marcus Haines. Bobby and Shake were impressed to know we were there! We were impressed to be with them here!
Trolling around our park, it is so nice to see some our friends. Carol and George came off their porch to say “hi”. Pam & Tim came from their new home to TP to play cornhole and see their old friends. Carolyn stopped by when they were chopping down low hanging branches from a tree right in front of us. We saw some hot air balloons float over the other morning. Albert the alligator was resting on the pond’s bank as we passed by on our golf cart.
The End......for now. I’ll be back ❤️❤️❤️

Yuck!
I almost lost the contents of my stomach seeing the inside of your knee! Yucky! Loved the blog and pictures though and wishing you a pain free knee Sandy!
