We are in countdown mode right now. 35 hours before my upcoming surgery for a total right knee replacement......HOPEFULLY. I say “hopefully” because the rise in Covid cases has caused some hospitals here to cancel elective surgeries (I’m elective). So far, I’m still a go.....I have been told to arrive at the Celebration hospital at 5:00 AM for surgery at 11:00 AM this Monday, January 11th. I’m ready! I better go to bed at 5:00 PM on Sunday so I’m not catatonic on Monday. I’m not an early morning person. We are fully aware and prepared for what’s to come. If it goes as well as last time, it will be a snap. I watched the operative procedure on You-Tube. Yowee, thank God, I’m unconscious. I don’t deal well with pain! I think I have prepared you so you are well aware of this momentous event. Of course, I’ll be keeping scrupulous notes and taking many pictures so you don’t miss a minute of it all. Set your alarms and we’ll meet you at the hospital on Monday. Take an Uber if you have to.
Taking advantage of my full mobility at this time, our foursome went to the movie
theater at the old Artegon Mall (at the end of International Drive across from the Premium Outlet Mall)....now called Dezerland Action Park. Sam & Sandy and Cory & I saw the movie “News of the World” at the Cinemark theater. It was a very good, heart warming movie starring Tom Hanks. We had the theater to ourselves except for 4 folks way up behind us. Of course, the lounge chairs make this pleasant experience even more enjoyable. Try it, you’ll like it!
The theater is attached to this mall that has changed its venue many times over. Currently, it is called Dezerland. The main aisles of the mall were open with a taste of what to expect when the entire Mall opens. First, we came upon various, unique cars on display....many of them German made. They had various go-kart and bumper car rides. There was a full bowling alley. In the center of the mall were several, huge, highly decorated, luxury speciality cars. Maybe they would be used in big time parades.....I don’t know. They were something to see. Sam is a big time fan of James Dean so he did not hesitate to pose for me in front
of the James Dean luxury car. If you are looking for something to do, head on down here and take a stroll amongst these cars......and go to the movies while you are there. The Bass Outlet store is attached to this mall also.
Sadly, Lulu wasn’t with us. She can’t see the movie cause she sits so low in the seat. We can’t hold her the whole time and eat popcorn, too. She would have done her “happy dance” posing with all the fancy cars....her dance is limited to just a head rocking.....you know why! Next time, honey.
Cory and I are happy to have joined the few million folks that have received the first dose of the Covid vaccine. We got the Moderna brand. Cory took the DOH phone number for us to call from the TV news. He called and they registered us. A couple days later, they called us and told us where to go and when. It was all by appointment. We went to the DOH for Kissimmee grounds. They had us park our car in a square parking lot along with all the other recipients. We stayed in the car the entire time.
Because our registrations were over the phone, they had us fill out some paper work and consent. The nurse came around and gave us our shots as we sat in our seats. We were required to remain parked for an additional 15 minutes to make sure we were fine....we were and left. All this took less than an hour. We go back on February 1st for our second dose. Easy Peasy. Lulu wanted a shot but they could only give her one in her head (you know why), so she refrained and will wear her mask for the time needed. Pray she stays well.
As Cory was driving away from this area, we noticed a huge lineup of old, rusted, farm machinery in someone’s side yard. Talk about lawn decorations! They were behind a fence but it all opened up at the owner’s driveway. I know some of our followers like to see old stuff like this so I took a few photos for you. The rest of you can just close your eyes or move past them real fast. I did take another photo for everyone’s pleasure....at the end of this road someone still had their maze of
Christmas decorations still up for all to enjoy.....hmmmm. You can decide.
Another interesting phenomenon we observed on this busy day was a unique cloud formation. My mother liked clouds. I like clouds. I have never seen these clouds before. There was a long curl of clouds along the unique cloud mass. Wondering what this cloud formation is called. Inquiring minds want to know.....help.
Now I know you all know Art.....he’s like a blood brother to us all. Again, he performed his magical work to assist us. Our outside TV was coming in snowy. Cory would bang on it and it would clear up most of the time. Time came to discover the problem and fix it. Step up Art. It was very difficult to release the TV from its interior frame. So many various tools were used, it looked like a display at Home Depot. Even our neighbor, Theresa, lent her hand to hold up the outdoor door of the TV while the men worked. Once able to reach the back of the TV, Art could tighten the co-axle cable with his nimble fingers. Fixed! Hallelujah! Not so fast, Guenter. Cory was content with the results....he could now
watch his TV without thinking every show was in a Winter Wonderland. Let’s remember who is leading this job.....ART! Mr. Perfectionist. He was not satisfied on how some screws went back into the frame. So on Day 2: out come the big bucket of tools and the process is repeated. This time, Art was satisfied and pleased how the screws went back in. Yeah! The seal of approval was stamped by our personal quality control agent: Art. We are so happy he likes to do a job and do it right. What a guy. So many of us have benefited from his willing skills and generous knowledge. If we all paid him for his work like service companies would charge, he could buy and own this park and all the other businesses around it. Remember Art is our Internet guru. Anytime anyone has a problem with anything related to the internet.....Who Do They Call? Yes, ART! The park’s internet is subcontracted by an outside company: Fastwave. If we have a problem with the internet, we are supposed to call Fastwave. Guess who they call?? Yep....Art. He is always Johnny-on-the-Spot to fix the issue. And guess what?? Art does all this
out the goodness of his heart. That’s right. He is never paid for anything. He is not an employee.....he is just a resident of the park like the rest of us. Probably the most generous resident of all us. Truly, one of a kind to do all that he does and then, quietly does even more that many don’t realize. He is such a humble man. When Art goes to his Northern home, residents in the park will be in for a shock. Repairs for the Internet will become like any service call. It could be weeks to wait for an appointment. Our maintenance staff can do what they can but their knowledge and skills do not compare to Art’s at all. We are going to follow Art out the driveway!
Right now, we are watching the Buffalo Bills game on TV. They are playing the Colts. Loyal fan, Cory, is thrilled with their performance this year. He is rooting them on today wearing his Bills shirt and drinking beer. He’s pretending he’s in a sports bar. Fingers crossed they win today. Go Bills!
That’s it.....no more from me until I am a post-op patient. Of course, I’m
planning you’ll be there to meet my many needs. Lulu can only do so much (you know why) and Cory had enough of meeting my needs the first time around. He seeking assistance this time. Hah! It’s all just you, Bucky. I’m all yours, Cory.....remember “In sickness and in health”! Take a peek at the 27 photos.
