I was feeling very hungover and it made the top 3 of hangovers for the holiday so far; everyone else felt the same way and some food was going to be in order. Unfortunately the hotel did not provide a complimentary breakfast so we decided to head to the closes Mcdonalds. Once we had eaten we went for a tour around Washington to take in the major the sites of the city. Fist up was the White House, it was so surreal to see the building up close especially after seeing on the TV so often; it is much more impressive up close. Near to the White House there was a guy who was trying to claim that Hilary Clinton never existed which was absolutely ridiculous!
The weather was once again excellent as it had been on all the major cities that we had visited and surprising considering it was the end of October. Next Stop was the Washington moment which was massive but thankfully there were no steps that could be climbed up like in Boston as I know everyone would have wanted to attempt it and I don't think I was in the condition to make
it all the way to the top. From the monument you could see one way Capitol Hill and the other way the reflecting lake and the Lincoln Memorial, it was a superb view whichever way you looked. On the way to the Lincoln memorial there was a great tribute to all the heroes who had given their lives on the second world war as well as some inspiring quotes on the wall. The Lincoln memorial was also very impressive up close and gave another excellent view back towards the monument and Capitol Hill.
After a quick drinks break, the lemonade was really good, we decided to walk to Capitol Hill which did not look like it was too far. Along the way there was a great moment when a mother was telling off her son for going to near the water, "get away from the edge if you fall in you know I can't swim!" It took almost an hour to get to Capitol Hill which was much longer than I expected and another long walk to add to the collection; I was surprised my feel continued to hold up! We stopped by a lake just in
front of Congress to rest before making the very long trek back to the hotel. Back at the hotel before heading out for some food me and Jake were throwing around a bar of soap when Jake decided to throw it to Jack and even though his name was clearly shouted he did not react and the soap smacked him straight on the forehead, it was absolutely hilarious. Jack was not impressed though!
For a meal we went to the Old Ebitt Grill which was a place I had looked up earlier and was pretty close to the hotel which was a bonus. Grant and I made a quick detour so I could get my latest Hard Rock t-shirt! The food in the grill was excellent and well worth the price paid, then hanger steak was on a par with the one that I had at the Bench in Stowe. Nobody felt like staying out after the meal considering the long drive the next day and the previous heavy night. It was only a snapshot of Washington and again I wished we could have had a couple more days to explore the city more in full but
I had seen everything major that I wanted to see that day.
