After that very long and very tiring drive last night, we were exhausted which made us both sleep like little babies. We woke up this morning in a small town called Frisco, CO and of course we were in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Unfortunately we were up before our alarm went off due to someone's car alarm that was continuously honking right beside us. We hopped up and began getting ready for the day. Tim went into Wal-Mart to pick up a few things we had on our list while I downloaded some pictures and worked on my blogs. Soon we were ready to hit the road and make our way over to the tourist trap of Vail, CO. As we entered downtown Vail, you could tell it was very very nice. Everything looked as if it were just built and all fresh and shiny and new. We made our way to the Eagle Bahn dining and shops entrance where we proceeded to walk around and meander through all the little shops. I found a really cute jacket I liked but when I saw the $285.00 price tag on it I decided I better not get it today. I should have
known as soon as I saw the clearance rack and it said "from $175.00 and below" that this was not the store for me !! All the shopping and walking were doing was making us hungry so we found a nice little place called Garfinkel's right in town. We made our way out to the terrace and found a great seat by the mountainside. I had some edamame as an appetizer while Tim snacked on some hot cheesesticks as we waited for our lunch. Soon my buffalo chicken salad and Tim's rueben sandwich arrived and they were both delicious. After paying the $60.00 tab, yep, I said $60.00 for lunch, we both just looked at each other and said "thank goodness the food was so good or else I would be really pissed !". We shopped a little while longer but unless you're in Vail to ski there's not really that much more to do or see so we headed on back to the motorhome. We wanted to make our way over to a town called Glenwood Springs and check out a few things that were in the book. On the ride over, we drove through the Glenwood Canyon and
it was another amazing site to see. Tim pulled over at a rest stop and we walked down to the rivers edge and played in the Colorado River for a few minutes. That was a nice and refreshing break because by now the sun was out in full force and it was getting hot. We eventually made it to Glenwoods Springs and Magellan took us right to the Glenwoods Hot Springs pool. This hot springs pool spans over three blocks and is famous for being the largest hot springs pool in the world. The water's temperature stays around 98 degrees but can reach up to 104 at it's peak. We had orginally planned to put on our suits and stay there for a while but it was so packed out we decided not to stay. On top of the numerous amounts of people, it was really hot outside and the water was really hot so we were like "why on Earth would you want to sit in hot water in this heat?" Anyway, we took a few pictures through the gates and then made our way on over to the Glenwood Caverns. I had picked up a brochure while back
in Vail that talked about caving and the Glenwood Caverns so we decided we would adventure out and have some fun. We had to take another gondola ride up to the top of the mountain in order to get to the actual cave itself but hey, I was getting to be an old pro at gondolas so I just hopped right on and off we went. After we arrived at the top of the mountain, I began wondering to myself "what in the world are you doing Candy???". I wasn't really the caving type of girl and I definitely don't like being in enclosed spaces so I had no idea what I was doing about to go inside a dang cave. The tour guide Kathy along with Tim and the others talked me through it and before I knew it I was 100 feet in the ground walking through a cave. We had done this before over at Carlsbad Caverns but that was a couple of years ago and I forgot how much I didn't like it. It's cold, wet, dark and creepy but I was a brave little trooper and finished the whole tour without crying or throwing up
my expensive lunch. Yay, two hours later and it was finally over and although there were some beautiful parts of the cave, I still don't like it !! Tim gave Ms. Kathy a nice tip and we headed up the hill and towards the gondola. As we made our way up to the gondola we looked over and there was a fox sitting underneath a tree right there beside us. At first I thought it was fake but then I saw his ears pop up and it scared me half to death. Luckily he was more scared of us than we were of him and he jumped up and ran away but not before I caught a quick picture of him. Well that was exciting but not quite as exciting as riding the gondola back down while watching a thunderstorm brewing in the sky. Just a minute or two after we were on our way down, I look over and begin to see lightning off in the distance. Our gondola car began to sway back and forth from the wind as the storm moved closer. I ain't gonna lie ya'll, I was SCARED to death !! There was no way
to get off of this thing so all I could do was pray that we got to the bottom before the storm got to us. Of course Tim was laughing his head off at me as I grasped the handles and held on for dear life. Once my feet hit the solid ground again I was happier than I was about getting off that mountain at midnight the other night. Tim and Kayla have no fear so they don't understand what it's like to be scared of anything. He just laughs at me and thinks it's funny. Eventually my heart stopped pounding out of my chest and I realized I wasn't going to die in that gondola ride tonight so I was okay. It was getting late and we needed to get gas and find somewhere to stay for the night so we made our way across the street to Big Bertha and off we went to fill up the tank. Magellan found us a Wal-Mart over in Rifle, CO so Tim hit the highway and soon we were there. We parked underneath a security light, opened up the slides and fell asleep in each others arms. Tomorrow is going
to be a long long driving day as we say goodbye to Colorado and head over to Utah. See you there ! :-)
