What a day! We started with a leisurely stay at our hotel this morning in Colby, KS, swimming in the pool and (mostly) hot tub after a terrific breakfast. Hitting the road later than expected, around 11:45 am, we were psyched to pick up that extra hour when we crossed from Central to Mountain time!
Saw a lot more amber waves of grain on this drive than yesterday - fields that went as far as the eye could see, dotted only by the occasional silo or windmill or house (very, very occasional). The drive seemed quick enough, though, and before long we were spying the impressive mountain range in the distance through the haze. Finally, something worthy of our admonishments to the kids to look out the window! Even they couldn't be unimpressed by the soaring peaks and snow-capped tips.
We arrived at the RV Rental place just ahead of schedule, luckily, as the paperwork, tour and cargo transfer were far lengthier endeavors than any of us were hoping. After about 3 1/2 hours, we were finally on our way! Todd's maiden voyage through downtown Denver to park us at Lot A of Coors Field for the evening game
was nothing short of inspiring. We are in good hands!
As a special treat, we were greeted by a friendly face at the game. A good family friend, Chuck Gray, who is also Billy's godfather, is in Denver on business, and was kind enough to duck out of his official functions to come hang out with us for the game against the Marlins. It was a delight to see someone from home in a strange place! And the evening was spectacular - perfect weather, an amiable crowd all wearing my favorite color, and the kids actually showing an interest in what was happening in the game for an inning or two. Who could ask for more? Thanks to Chuck, all the kids are now proud owners of Colorado Rockies hats, too!
We parted ways toward the end of the game (which the Rockies also lost - guess we are bad luck for the home teams), and made our way back to the RV to begin our trek in earnest. We managed to log an hour (thanks to Todd's stellar driving skills and night owlish tendencies) and pulled into our destination in Fort Collins just before 11:00. Have to
admit it's the first time we've seen multiple semis and RVs in a Walmart parking lot for the night. Surprised someone hadn't broken out a brand new fire pit and thrown a s'more-making party in an empty space.
We plan to stock up on provisions in the morning before hitting the road for Cheyenne, WY and Custer, SD. As we write this, the kids are all asleep in their bunks, the A/C is blowing a cool breeze, and the parking lot is quieter than some campgrounds we've tried. All in all, another great day. Check out our pics, and we'll see you again tomorrow from Flintstone's Bedrock City!

Happy Vacation!
I'm loving my own personal tour of America while I sit at my computer! It looks like such a great time for your family and a trip they will never forget. Thanks for letting me ride along. Stay safe and continue the fun. I'm wondering if you and Todd will find a nice, old couple at one of your campsites to watch the kids while you guys go off for some adult fun!! : ) I'll be waiting for that entry!!
