Denver Trip

Denver, Day 1

Arrive at Denver Airport; go get rental car and drive to downtown Denver.

Walking Tour;
...Union Station - actually very beautiful.
...Walked down the mall (16th ave)
...Tattered Cover Bookstore - impressive (bought a gift here for a friend - almost didn't find it.)
... Denver Microbrew Tour - fun! Breckenridge Agave Wheat was my absolute favorite. This tour is run by a college kid my age - met lots of interesting folks. Definitely one of my favorite things I did. This tour got me drunk (which I should have known).
...went to the Denver Art Museum drunk. Enjoyed it very much. There was non-generic room with lights projected on the walls and unconventional surfaces - I sat in a bean bag chair. I made a postcard for me and a boy - I thought I was Picasso with the stamps and colored pencils.

heard from my host (phone had been off all day)...we decide to meet at his place at 930.

...I walk more along the 16th street mall. I decide I want to see the burlesque show at Lannies Clocktower. It is called "Naughty Pierre's Burlesque & Comedy Extravaganza." No boylesque. Had a couple drinks - table service. Left at 945, 15 minutes after I was to meet my friend.

I get lost - gps keeps losing service and delays my route actions (turns).

There are seven different streets with the same name - I cannot find my friend's place. He is not answering that phone. My phone dies. I go to a dive restaurant with this very lovey twenty something girl who lets me use their outlet to charge my phone. I smoke a cigarette - I need it.

I cannot get a hold of my friend - but now I have his apartment number; maybe this will help.

I find his apartment; I was really close. I bang on the closet next door and realize it's a closet. No one is home. I go find a bar. I need to charge my phone more if he calls and I could really use a drink. It's 11pm.

I go to this Irish bar and order a beer. I plug my phone into the jack conveniently located on the OPEN sign. The bar is in Parker, CO - friend lives in Aurora but it is a straight shot. I begin telling people at the bar my dilemma. There's this guy; his name is Jake, he buys me a drink - he used to be in the army and we talk wine.

My friend calls - we will meet in 30 minutes.

It's good to have a roof over my head.

Shenanigans.

Nederland, Estes Park, Day 2

I take the rental to the Peak-to-Peak byway which is the road connecting Nederland to Estes Park. It snows. I see a casino, should have stopped. I drive and take pictures while I drive. By the time I get to Estes Park, I am exhausted and decide to skip the winery and go home.

I hang out with my friend and get Dominoes Pizza for dinner. We drive around a bit and watch movies.

Eldora, Boulder, Day 3

It was hard getting my friend to get up. I ended up snowboarding by myself. The runs were 3 miles! It snowed - I had fun. My friend stayed at the bar. 2 hours later we went to Boulder. No cell service.

Finally call my cousin, he suggests the Cork Restaurant for dinner. I get grilled salmon salad. We talk - I like my cousin; this is the second time we've met. His children are my age - I have never met them; they live in New England.

Tomorrow I leave at 4 am. I am tired and almost his a pack of coyotes going 80 mph on the freeway.

Summary

I enjoy Denver; this trip was much more chill than normal - mostly because I was here to see a friend.

Don't miss.
...microbrewery tour - money well spent.
