Well you wouldn't know it from the amount of crying kids.
The first collaboration;
Despite agreeing to an early morning departure we slept in until 10am. We managed to hit the Disneyland ticket booth by 11.30am, bought our tickets and then tried to enter the wrong theme park. Once successfully inside the gates (of Disneyland) we sat down for 5 minutes and planned our attack. The must do rides were:
Star Tours
Space Mountain
Mad hatters tea cup party
Splash mountain (for a fast pass ticket - you walk up, and get a reservation to come back in 3 hours and skip the 40 minute queue for the ride)
House of Horrors
Pirates of the Caribbean
Indiana Jones
And finishing up with the fireworks
Ride 1 - Star Tours
Kym was a little nervous (dark, small confined space and the anticipation of it being the first ride). I felt better when the animated character said “everyone ready to launch” and a little kid who was bawling his eyes out screamed “I don’t want to do this anymore”. I couldn’t be outdone by a 4 year old. We survived the first ride.
Ride freaking
2 - Space Mountain
OMG - get me off this f*%#^ing thing!!!!!!!!!!! Kym here and I hated every minute of it. I felt that sick that when I got off I wobbled all over the place, I was sweating with ‘hold the sick in’ anxiety and hated Eric for the next 10 minutes (especially when he took a photo of me in this state!)
(E) It wasn’t that bad, just a dark rollercoaster ride. I went back for a second solo run later in the day.
Ride 3 - The Tea Cup ride
(E) This is the one you see on the commercials with all of the little children all happy and laughing. Well, like all of Disneyland it’s a lot smaller when you see it in real life. Ride two had almost stuffed our entire day, Kym was petrified of the tea cup ride. I spent a good 5 minutes trying to get her back in the queue. Although I did manage to get great video footage of Kym freaking out - very funny stuff.
Ok Kym again….so I got on the ride people. In the tea cup is a steering wheel that you can
use to spin the cup. I threatened Eric with death if he spun it. He didn’t. xxx
Although as we were going around some snotty nosed kid from the queue yelled out to us “you’ve got to spin it yourself”…….what a d*ckhead….the kid that is.
Ride 4 - House of horrors.
OK nothing to write home about.
Ride 5 - Pirates of the Caribbean,
Disappointing - I can’t even remember it.
Ride 6 - Splash Mountain.
For those from Adelaide, think Magic Mountain.
(E) The worst thing about this ride is the anticipation of the big drop. They float (in a log looking boat) you around all of these mechanical Disney characters for a few minutes before the final plunge - a 20 metre 70degree drop. I managed to get the front seat and so was saturated when we spat out the other end and spent the rest of the day walking around Disney land with wet clothes.
Lunch was a chilli cheese dog and a hot dog from the “Coke Café” on Main Street Small Town USA. They have these parades every couple of hours with performers prancing around and the whole animated cast joining
in. Unfortunately, and this is something they don’t tell you in the brochure, is that they play the same theme music all day long. It’s a prosaic(banal) series of tunes that gets under your skin - and now Kym knows it off by heart and is singing it here in the Qantas lounge…
Ride 7 - Indiana Jones (come back later, there’s been a malfunction!!!)
Ride 8 - Honey I shrunk the Kids (a Kodak sponsored 3D presentation with glasses and all)
Ok this was pretty bad however I did freak out when during the movie the mice escaped and ran through the audience (the screen blacked out and all of a sudden they tickle the back of your legs as though the mice were running all over you). FREAKY!
Ride 9 - Toy Story “Buzz Light-year” Astro Blaster
This ride was cool! Very kiddie like but I loved it…no guessing it’s Kym here. You get on a little buggy and cruise around the Toy Story world and are given little plastic guns to shoot at targets. You get points for hitting certain targets and you’re basically competing against the person in your buggy. It
lasted about 5 minutes and we’ve got a classic photo that we can send!
(E) It was a real kiddie ride, but that didn’t stop Kym resorting to cheating. The photo has the evidence of this.
Ride 10 - Ranch Railroad rollercoaster.
I had to bribe Kym with many things to get her to do this one with me. She did, and she liked it.
Dinner was Ice cream sundaes. Enough said.
Ride 11 - Indiana Jones
(E) Again, Kym was freaking out. She didn’t want to ride it. They have these signs up that say “Expectant mothers should not ride this attraction”. Kym decided that any ride with this warning was beyond her tolerance. Any way, once in the ride, she tried to get sympathy from fellow patrons turning to the lady next to her with an “I’m terrified!” plea for help. I assured her it would be no worse than driving in my car, probably safer.
Kym here…well guess what was my favourite ride. Sooooooooooo much fun!!!
We then headed to Toon town and went through Mickey’s House and had a family photographic moment - slightly awkward.
(E) “Next family please” was the call.
“It’s just the two of us”
“Oh”…
Ride 12 - Toon Town Rollercoaster
(E) I had Kym on a roll and was going for any decent ride I could find. This one did scare me though and not for the reason you would expect. I could barely fit in the seat (it is toon town after all) and the restraining bar wouldn’t close. I had to sit partly sideways with my knees crumpled to get it down.
Fireworks
Good display. We think they were shortened as they were threatening to call them off due to high winds “at altitude”. It was almost dead calm where we were and I reckon they just didn’t want to put on a show.
For your sake, we’ve skipped a few repeat rides in this lengthy review of our day.
Summary
(E) When I was in first or second grade, a school friend went to Disneyland and I asked my mum why I couldn’t go. Her reply was that my friend was from a single child family and that they could afford to take him and that it would be too expensive to take me and my sister. For months all I could think about was knocking off my sister.
Well I made it here, without killing my sister, and it was worth the trip.
PS the photos don't line up with the text and the Arnie Shot was from the day before.
