View from plane approaching RenoSouth Lake Tahoe – Adventures Year Round by Duchess DJ Love, Gallivanting Like a Royal
Lake Tahoe, clouds, mountain ridge, and valley
South Lake Tahoe offers numerous activities throughout the year. There are art galleries, shows, live entertainment, and day spas for relaxation. My first visit was during the off season in late March. Flying into Reno as you are about to land, the flight provides great views of the surrounding area including Lake Tahoe, mountain tops and valleys depending on flight patterns and weather. The clouds cleared just as we were about to land.
The off season is the best time to get a deal with the Casino Hotels or other lodging. The Hard Rock Hotel, Bailey’s formerly MontBleu, Harrah’s and Harvey’s are within easy walking distance to Heavenly Village to ski, shop or dine. There are numerous lodges, cabins, and condo rentals available to choose. While visiting, my lake view balcony suite at Harvey’s was my home away from home. The spacious open floor plan suite with living room, breakfast nook area, separate bedroom and two large bathrooms exceeded my expectations. The multi faucet shower and heated towel rack were a bonus.

A Heart awaits me in baggage claim
Baggage Claim of RNO and there's a sign with a big heart...feeling the love already.
Lake Tahoe from RNO, Reno International Airport, is a breeze if you take the South Tahoe Airporter. Fare is reasonable. The scenic drive is a bit over an hour. I prefer the shuttle since car rentals are expensive. The service is available year-round. Check their website for schedules and fares. While in South Lake Tahoe you can rent bikes, grab a taxi, take the local bus, or book a tour.
Things to do while in South Lake Tahoe CA/Stateline NV are plentiful. Snowshoe in the moonlight, boat ride on the lake, self-guided walking history tour of town, ski/snowboard, gamble: table games and slots, shop, hike and so much more. There is even a castle, Vikingsholm - Tahoe's Hidden Castle, with tours available during summer. You know that one was of major interest to me.
So many dining options from grab and go to fine dining. Several lake front restaurants are available with spectacular views. Breakfast was at American River Café each morning in Harrah’s. Excellent service and food. Dropped by Alpine Union restaurant at the Hard Rock for an early dinner. Paul was our waiter serving us with friendly, uplifting energy while providing tips

of where to go and what to do. We formed a bond over our North Carolina interests. The Mac Daddy N Cheese burger was more than enough for two people. We sampled the blazing mango habanero chicken wings. Oh my, so delicious. They have some kick, but your eyes don’t water from the heat; the bit of sweetness makes it even tastier. The décor and ambience created a delightful meal. The outdoor patio has pretty fire pits to keep you warm. Sage Room Steak house atop Harvey’s was remarkable. Starting off with the Pineapple Mojito, then appetizers: wild mushroom ravioli and shrimp scampi style were unique. Main course was the Sage steak and finishing off with the Flambe melt away chocolate dome. Food, view, ambience, service, and experience were gratifying. Make a reservation as this place books up quickly.
Tried my luck on the slots. Won some at Harveys but Harrah’s slots were tight. Walked down to the lakeshore beach area which is open all year. Strolled the Lake Tahoe Historical Society walking history tour. You use your phone to scan the QR code to find out more about each site. The Heavenly village provided several live

performers in different sections, rode the gondola to the scenic lookout platform and on up to the ski and snowboarding area, and browsed the outdoor outfitting stores. The Gondola ride was a highlight of the trip. There are two stops: observation area and ski/snowboard trails. The Tamarack Lodge serves snacks and warm restrooms. From this area, you can take the lifts higher for skiing the downhill slopes. Ski season this year has been extended to April 15th
. The weather was perfect: sunny skies, light breeze and temps hovering around upper 40s.
Found a unique accessory, a collar necklace spelling LOVE, in J Boutique which is in Harrah's hotel lobby area. The item was perfect for me. Essence, also located in Harrah's hotel lobby, had a cap with a heart outlining Harrah’s on it and matching tshirt. Another Duchess Dj love find. 😊 Folks liked my southern voice and struck up conversations with me everywhere we went. Definitely boosted my ego. Traveling opens one up to dialogue and sharing adventure stories. This is the best part of roaming the world.
