Elephant Seals
Elephant Seals of Piedras Blancas On our drive south to San Simeon, we came across the Elephant Seals of Piedras Blancas. My....aren't they an attractive lot? They actually have an interesting story. Prized for their wonderful blubber they were over hunted almost to extinction. In 1990 there were 2 dozen recorded. Now there are five thousand of them. If you want to read more about them, they have their own site. http://www.elephantseal.org/index.htm
I am attaching some photos.
So, we did arrive to San Simean and had a lovely day there. It had changed since we visited on our honeymoon 38 years ago. They now have a great IMAX movie that paints a picture of William Hearst when he was a child and where his dreams for the castle came from. I have included photos of this as well. The gardens like most others here in California were loaded with roses that were quite fragrant.
