An individual that I researched that has started their own non profit organizations is a person by name of Rachel Sumekh. The name of her organization is Swipes for Homeless, and it is an organization that re-purposes student dining dollars into non-perishable food for local food banks and homeless shelters. This organization was founded in 2009 by students that realized that their dining dollars could be converted into real money and given to those in need. Swipes for the Homeless started at the University of California, Los Angeles and has since expanded into several other colleges. Where now Swipes for the Homeless is currently working with 50 schools, and have collected over 97,952 meals and have donated more than 286,810 pounds of food since January 2012. Beside all of that the organizations main purpose is to also strive to raise awareness around homelessness. Overall I think that this country is in a small way making a difference because she is feeding the many people who don't get enough food everyday like they should. While also letting people know how serious homelessness is and that something should be done about. This is what I think of the organization Swipes for the Homeless.
