what a culture shock - Fiji to LA
got to the hotel v tired after our strange "going back in time" day and travelling overnight to be told that they didn't have a reservation for us !!! doh - we (and that is the collective "we" - no-one is taking responsibility for this one) booked the hotel for the 13-15th March instead of 13th - 15th May - whoops - one of those internet mistakes where it defaults the date to when you book !!!! and of course it was one that was paid in full upfront so we've have to wedge out again - carl is blaming me, I'm blaming him - but I think we're over it now !!!!
We've actually quite enjoyed LA - we didn't really think we'd like it but it's strangely intruiging. As we really only had one full day we decided to take an organised tour of all the sights - got to see the amazing beaches of Venice & Santa Monica, Rodeo Drive, Sunset Boulevard, Walk of Fame, Hollywood sign etc. etc. - really amazing to see, we'd never have got around all of it on our own steam. And Carl was
not quite baywatch babe !!!
venice beach - 9am - the heat fog burned away by mid morning - it was scorchio ! in his element when he bumped into his fat friend Howitt dressed up as Homer for the day on the walk of fame!
The food is just amazing (as it always is in America) - we ate at Joe's on the Pier at Redonda beach first night - fabulous seafood restaurant - where you get the clam chowder, gorgeous salad (yes the healthy green stuff) and desert all free with your main course all for about $20 !!! how does that work ? just eaten tonight at the Cheesecake factory that is across the road from our hotel right on the marina - whoah - carl was struggling to finish his cheesecake after stuffing his growing belly beast with a massive burger topped with steak pieces !!!! I can't talk though as 've now got about 5 bellies developing and 6 chins - serious exercise kicking in when we get back
Spanner - how did you live here for so long without being deported ? - I can just imagine your "oh my gawd have you seen the size of that" remarks - the amount of really really huge people are absolutely incredible - which is in complete
contrast to the amount of really fit people out running, biking, skating etc - very wierd - why do they have such big portions of food and then they all take it home in plastic cartons - why don't they just serve less - don't get it
and why oh why do all american toilets have gaps between the doors and the frames - you can have a right good view of people doing their business - very wierd and sometimes unpleasant !!!!
Off to Vegas in the morning - hopefully - just checked our flights online as I'm getting paranoid about our itinerary and the flight number and time seems to have changed so who knows !!!
our aim is to not pay a penny for food or drink as everyone is telling us you get it all free as long as you keep slotting some money in the machines and tipping the waitresses
adios for now
lots of love
elise & carl
