My Aunt took my cousins and I to a college football game during my layover in L.A.
UCLA vs. Tennessee
It was an intense game! My last night in Juneau was spent packing and hanging out with my family and a few friends that were left in town. I thoroughly enjoyed belting out old school songs with all of them.

Juneau, AK to Seattle, WA ... 2.5 hours I arrived at the airport at 6:30am, which was one hour prior to departure. There was a long line, and I was afraid I would miss my flight but Marita was right in front of me, which made

UCLA beat Tennessee in overtime me feel at ease. I checked in two 25-30lbs bags and I used my weekend camping backpack as my carryon. I kissed and hugged my parents’ goodbye and went through security. During the entire plane ride, I read my Lonely Planet Costa Rica Spanish Phrasebook hoping I’d magically pick it up, haha. Didn’t work. At one point, I accidentally spilt my water and the man sitting next to me started speaking to me in Spanish offering me a napkin. I didn’t understand him, just his gestures.
Seattle, WA to Los Angeles, CA ... 2.5 hours My layover in Seattle wasn’t very long, and my ticket said to go to the N Gates and when I finally got there they changed it to the C gates. I was the last person to board the plane, haha. Nothing exciting happened on the plane, there was nobody sitting next to me and I couldn’t fall asleep. I spent the entire plane ride staring outside the window.
Layover in Los Angeles, CA... 55 hours I arrived at the airport around 3pm, and my aunt was waiting for me when I stepped outside the terminal. From the airport, we meet up with the
L.A. Layover
Eating dinner at Taco Bell with my cousin Patrick before going to the airport rest of her family at a hole in the wall burger joint, it was delicious. From there we went to the UCLA vs. Tennessee football game. My Aunt and I got to sit in the seventh row, right next to the touchdown line; they were prime time seats. The game ended up taking 4 hours because it went into overtime; it was a really exciting game! After that we went home and ate hotdogs! In the morning, I went shopping the whole day, but I didn’t buy much. The next day my Aunt took me out to Olive Garden since my cousin worked there, it was delicious! I love Olive Garden. Then my cousins and I went shopping at Melrose, but I didn’t buy very much or at least as much as I normally would. My last meal in the U.S. was a Challupa Supreme from Taco Bell.
Los Angeles, CA to Fort Lauderdale, FL... 5 hours I was looking at the flight schedules on a screen, and there was a voice behind me. It was a kid from L.A. on his way to Guatemala to volunteer for the weekend at an orphanage where he sponsors 2 kids. Very
interesting person… I also met a lady going to Jamaica; I think I made a new friend because she kept giving me candy. She couldn’t speak English. I tried sleeping on the plane ride, but I had no luck because I was freezing; they didn’t provide blankets and I was wearing a tank top and shorts.
Fort Lauderdale, FL to San Jose, Costa Rica... 2.5 hours At the airport terminal, I met a guy on his way to Costa Rica. He shared interesting facts about the country and gave me suggestions on what to do and where to go while I’m down there. On the plane, I couldn’t sleep and there was no one sitting next to me once again. The guy I met in the terminal sat next to a girl on the plane that was from Tennessee who was also with the ISA program, so he introduced me to her. Her name was London, and she actually was up in Alaska this summer working at a fish cannery, apparently she liked it so much she’s going back next summer. She seemed pretty cool, but the university she is going to is located in San Jose.
