Fiji-Episode 2
Monday 19
th March
Up late today after a bit more Skype talk with family and friends. Emma has sorted car insurance out for us all in our absence which we are very grateful for having saved us a stack load of cash.
Really hot again today so after topping up at the included breakfast buffet we chilled by the pool for the remainder of the day. I am feeling a whole lot better now and looking forward to resuming the beer intake from tomorrow when i finish the course of dustbin lid tablets!

Time to move on today back to Nadi Town and hand the car back. We have booked a room at the Trans Continental Hotel for the night before transferring to Sonaisali Resort tomorrow. We didn’t rush driving back as we had plenty of time but took a couple of stops to rehydrate and do some souvenir shopping along the way.
Arrived at the hotel at 16.00 and checked in and handed car back then Sue shot off for a swim in the pool and to
catch up with Face book on the free wifi facility. I on the other hand took myself of to the room and snoozed, must be a sign of middle age and it’s what the locals do as it’s so hot and humid.
Spent the evening playing cards and draughts in a very empty bar before turning in to listen to a tropical downpour outside.

This morning we caught our shuttle bus across the road to the airport where we made ourselves known at the Rosie Travel shop ready for our pre – arranged transfer to the resort. The transfer was via an old school bus full of hotel staff and twenty or so young NZ teenagers who were buzzing with excitement at the prospect of a three day holiday in the sun.
On arrival we made ourselves known to reception who as we were early for check in sat us in the bar with a cocktail while they made up our room. We had booked the cheap and cheer full garden view room within the main block and were both very surprised when the porter
lead us in the opposite direction along the pathway and to the steps of a large stand alone Bure in the garden with stunning sea views. We attempted to explain this had to be a mistake but the porter just smiled and went on his way.
Racked with guilt and a slight worry we would be charged the much higher price we called into to reception to ask, only to be told we had been given an upgrade as all the cheaper rooms had been taken, probably by the young crowd from NZ we presumed.
So back to our little slice of luxury we went looking forward to chilling out over the next four days.
Thursday 22nd/ Friday23rd and Sat 24
th March.
I’m not going to bore you with my blog ramblings for the past few days as they consist of nothing more than sitting in a sun lounger, drinking wine and reading. Not very exciting!
We did try and liven our Thursday afternoon by taking out one of the hotels Hoby Cats for a sail. Unfortunately the two boats available where in such a
poor state of repair the trip only lasted an hour before the lower baton pierced the sail leaving a large hole. I also noticed when sailing that one hull would flex alarmingly when on the Starboard tack and that the rudders where held on by a bent nail. Oh and there were no lids on the water tight compartments. On our return I did point out these defects to the activities supervisor, but not surprisingly being Fijian my comments disappeared over his head with a shrug of his shoulders.
Apart from that we have had a very relaxing four days and our now packed and killing time before our transfer to Nadi Airport this evening, Sunday 25
th to catch our flight to LA and then on to Las Vegas.
Transport to the airport was again on the old school bus with the time spent chatting to a Canadian couple. On arrival we found a long quay for the check in as the flight had been combined with two other airlines. I spent the time watching the semi final of the Hong Kong Rugby sevens with Fiji v England. The locals were triumphant 14 –
7 and proudly to the mick on realising i was a English, all good fun though and am quietly pleased they won.
The flight was not the best we have experienced with the service and food below par so we tried to sleep for most of it. The flight deck did announce that Fiji did win the tournament final against NZ All Blacks, must of been some party on the Islands!
Touched down in LAX at 13.30 and made our way through USA customs then on to our connecting flight to LV. This is were we discovered we had cocked up due to the time difference it was still in fact Sunday and not Monday when our flight was due. Its a bit strange having two Sundays in a row!
Anyway we booked in to a Comfort Inn for the night not far from the airport and spent the afternoon catching up on emails ect and had an early night only to wake up at midnight wide awake. So a couple of hours watching CSI on TV and we dropped off again and didn’t wake until 09.30 and missing the buffet
breakfast. A twenty minute stroll along the sidewalk and we found a Denny’s and enjoyed a monster USA breakfast, its no wonder there are a lot of chubbies over here!
Now back at the airport having checked in with Spirit Airlines and have just been clobbered for $78.00 for our two bags. Our low cost flight price didn’t mention the fact that baggage was an extra charge, bl**dy robbers. Better read the small print next time.
