My wife (Prudy) and I joined with my brother (John) and his wife (Fran) on a trip to Lake Tahoe earlier this month. Normally we would take our motorcycles on a trip like this but weather is always a factor this time of year around Lake Tahoe so we traveled in John's 4-door F-150 pickup. Of course, as it turned out we could have taken the motorcycles because the weather was great except for one morning when it rained for a couple of hours.
None of us had ever been to Lake Tahoe so we were excited about the trip. John and Fran are members of Diamond Resorts, Int'l and we went as guests. Our accommodations were outstanding at the Lake Tahoe Recreational Resort. We each had a 1-bedroom suite with full kitchen, dining area, living room (with fireplace) and a huge bathroom. We also had a king-size bed that was like sleeping on a cloud. We also had a nice patio that we didn't use because we were gone all day and it was too cool at night. The only drawback to the resort was that valet parking was required and it was a somewhat of a hassle not
being able to get to our vehicle without using the valet. Although, that wouldn't stop us from going back there.
The trip from John's house in Prescott Vally, AZ was almost 700 miles so we took two full days to get there. On the way we detoured into Yosemite National Park for about 2 hours just to say we went there. It is a good thing we did that on the way, because on the way back the roads into the park were closed due to snow.
I wish we have taken this trip a few weeks earlier so we could have seen the aspen trees in all of their color and glory. Our timing was good in one manner...we missed all of the tourist traffic. Most of the business's surrounding the lake were closed because tourist season was over. But that was all right, we found a great restaurant that was open in Tahoe City called "The Fire Sign" where the food was unbelievably delicious. In fact, it was featured on Rachael Ray's TV show as a place not to miss. We whole-heartedly agree. Each one of us ordered a different item off of the menu and
no one was disappointed. We rate it a 2-thumbs up.
One stop you wouldn't want to miss is the viewing area at Emerald Bay. The scenery was absolutely gorgeous. Further up the road was Eagle Falls which was a little of a disappointment but a nice, easy hike to get there. We drove the whole route around the lake and passed through some very nice small towns that would be nice to shop around in during tourist season.
We only spent 4 days at the resort before heading back home. Something very strange happened on the way home. We noticed a cloud forming in the vicinity of Mt. Whitney and it was changing into some odd shapes and very rapidly. I started taking photos (through the windshield) and we couldn't believe what we were seeing. Finally, we pulled over to the side of the road to get some better photos without the windshield in the way. I am 71 years old and have seen a lot of clouds in my lifetime but never anything like this. I will post them for your viewing pleasure. Keep in mind that some of them were taken through the somewhat dirty windshield.
I still don't know what could have caused such strange formations but have been told that it could possibly be a result of geo-engineering which, supposedly, is our government seeding the skies with mineral particles in order to eventually be able to control the weather. Don't know whether or not I believe that but it could explain the absolute weirdness of these clouds. Anyway, here are some photos and you can come to your own conclusions.
