2012 is coming to a close and it has been an awsome year for travel. I wrote a long blog a month or so a go in Mexico but the internet is not very reliable and I didn't save it often enough and lost it. So here is another one in a nutshell.
My last blog we were just about to arrive back to the UK for a 2 weeks drive around. We did that and also had 5 days in London proper to walk our legs off. It was a delight. We bussed, tubed everywhere.
We arrived home on October 8th. Had Thanksgiving dinner with our family, picked up our 5th wheel on Oct 15th and headed south. We spent 10 days getting down to Tucson to meet up with our Caravan buddies to do the trek to LaPenita. This year there were 10 rigs crossing the border into Mexico.
Our beautiful 5th continues to be a challenge. New brakes again in Tucson, black water tank cracked to go along with the Galley tank crack, I guess. Black water is much worse. Yuk. Removed one of the fenders because it was rubbing up again the tire. As
I said to Grant, our caravan pick up the pieces guy, "If we break down on the way, it won't be for lacking of trying to be secure and safe on the road". We had a couple of incidents with our caravan friends on our way down but not to us. We arrived with no major incidents other then our black water repair in Tucson didn't work and we leaked urine most of the way!!.
We arrived into LaPenita Nov 1. We had a ton of new cement poured in our pad area and it is great. Really no more space but so much more useable. On Nov 5, we took the bus to Guadalajara and then flew to Cancun to attend Nick Vanbuurens wedding in Playa del Carmen. It was a fun time and the wedding was spectacular. We arrived back in LaPenita on Nov 15th. It was so hot and humid in LaPenita we wondered why we didn't just stay in Playa for another month or so. It was hot and breezy there but the humidity was much more bearable.
Early December, we had friends come to Puerto Vallarta so we drove down and stayed at
their hotel for 2 nights. The resort was lovely and we enjoyed the sun and pool. Back to LaPenita and then on Dec 13the we bussed to PV, then flew back to Vancouver supposedly for Christmas. Tradition was broken this year! The old standby of my brother and family come Christmas eve for Lasagne, chicken wings, ceasar salad and santa clause. this year Ross and family opted to go to Whistler for christmas so we were on Plan B when Carli, our daughter in law emailed to say that her mom was getting married in Las Vegas at Christmas and Mark and she and family would be going to Vegas for Christmas. Clayton was the first to say "I could do Vegas for Christmas" which got us all thinking. Why not!! Larry and I had a great week visiting with friends from the 13th to the 21st when Clay, Evan, Larry and I drove to Bellingham to catch our flight to Vegas.
Evan had his classic BD party at Burger Heaven with 32 attending. It was wonderful and he was in his glory. It is really his night and so many special people came this year. Evan is obsessed
by Flavio. Flavio is a school friend that is a drummer for a band. Anyone that spends any time with Evan gets quite sick of hearing about Flavio and his band of the week. Also, Evan met a couple of wonderful couples in Mexico a few years ago and can you believe one of the guys, Lyle left work at the train yard, drove to Burger Heaven to give Evan a train hat. What a guy. Evan and the others.
Larry's cousin in Edmonton owns a home in Vegas and has always said we were welcome to use it so we could him up on it. We stayed at their place for a week. Carol is Mrs. Christmas so the place was gorgeously decorated and so comfortable. The weather was cold at night but OK during the day but always sunny. What a nice climate. Mark and family arrived on Christmas day. All 20 of us had dinner with Clay's friend Doug. Doug's mom Margaret from New Westminster was down to spend Christmas with Doug, Ginger and his 3 little girls. Margaret and Larry pitched in and cooked up a storm for 5 of them and 15 of us.
We were all welcomed with open arms and it was wonderful. Doug has a big house so accomodating us all was great.
The wedding was also very nice. It was December 29th at the Little White wedding Chapel in Vegas. Rather then do the drive through method they opted for a lovely little affair in a chapel. It was very well done and not the least bit cheesy. No Elvis preacher or anything. Linda married Ron, her guy of 27 years. Carli, Krista and Tricia all were very pleased for their mom. Mark walked Linda down the aisle and gave her away. It was a last minute request but I know he was delighted and pleased to be asked. All the wedding guests then retreated to the 'M' resort for a grand seafood buffet.
The next morning, Dec 30th, Larry and I bussed from LasVegas to Tehachapi to spend New Years with our friends James and Karen. The bus was just fine but Mexico has the bussing system down to an art. The Mexico highway busses are much nicer and they give you a bag lunch as you get on the bus. It is very cold in Tehachapi
and we don't really have clothes for this weather but we will just run from truck to house!
The plan now is to bus from Bakersfield to LA where we will fly back to Mexico on Jan 3rd. What a wild ride these last few months have been but I wouldn't change it for anything.
