1stride of the year and it was a cold one, cold is actually an understatement it was freezing. We took the back roads to Freeport were we met up with a few people at McDonald’s, whenever we can we avoid the freeway, in the city that is. There was quite a crowd in the McDonald’s parking lot, maybe 10 plus bikes but I’m not sure, mostly people we’ve never met before. We pulled into the parking lot following Dianna’s lead but apparently she was planning on a drive by. We went by them and waved, Don was looking at us like we’re out of our minds. The wind was up and the tide was flooding as we left Benicia. We would get a good push up the river. We passed under the Benicia and Antioch bridges. Along our route, we cruised by the security area of the Concord Naval Weapons Station. This is where the Port Chicago munitions explosion occurred in 1944. It was the most deadly homeland disaster to occur during WWII. The explosion instantly killed 320 military men and the seismic shock generated by the blast was felt all the way to Nevada. One of the changes that occurred as a result of the catastrophe was the racial integration of the military services. The Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers split right by Antioch. My wife Linda and I spent seven nights band eight days on the 'Mahaparinrvan' Special train that was recently introduced by th Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), a Public Sector Underatking, under the Ministry of Railways. the trip, which consists of a combination of train and bus travel, transports pilgrims on a odyssey to some of the worl'd most significant Buddhist sites including Bodhgaya, Rajgir, Nalanda, Sarnath, Kushinagar, Lumbini (in Nepal) and Sravasti, the the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort thrown in on the way back to Delhi.
