Coal barge on Mississippi.
Another very windy day...but the overcast sky was nice. The storms to the North are sure stirring up the wind. Today was a 487 mile journey, but for the most part the roads were great and traffic was OK. Once again Mi Hyon spelled me for about an 1.5 hours; after 22 days on the road I'm not sure I could drive that far without the break she gives me. We were making great time until we got within about 45 miles of West Memphis, then we hit a work zone with stopped traffic. This was the first time in 22 days we hit a traffic delay...now that's amazing! We were at a complete stop for about 20 minutes, but it gave us a chance to get up stretch our legs and use our mobile facilities ;-) Once we started moving again; traffic behaved really well and everyone moved over to the left lane. Almost no one raced down the right lane which was closing in 2 miles. Only one guy w/ blue plates had to get in front of everyone and he raced on to merge ahead, there's always one! With almost everyone cooperating, the backup went really fast and

We sure dressed up for this photo. Notice the color matched shoes and our up-to-date hair styles. ;-) What do you think Justin?
we were on the road again. My Garmin once again took me on the tourist route to the campground, it routed me through nearly every street and alley in West Memphis, but it did get me there ;-) There is a direct route, but it a secret to Garmin! The entrance to the Tom Sawyer RV park is rustic; very rustic. We were tempted to turn around and run because it seemed like a scene from Deliverance, but the road was too narrow anyway. Once we cleared the wooded entrance, the park opened up and is beautiful. The Camp host is a really nice lady that escorted us to our slot overlooking the Mississippi ;-) We're about 50 feet from the bank. We had a nice dinner and watched the barges go by, as well as lots of storm debris. Shortly after going to bed, Mi Hyon mentioned the stars and a bit of lightening in the distance. Well about 10 minutes later the distance was right of top of us. Wind, rain and lightening the RV was rocking and shaking. We did not fall to sleep for a while after that storm, but all ended well w/ no damage. It did blow the sneakers I had stored under the rv into another RV pad and knocked over all the picnic benches.

Tom Saywer RV is a very well maintained park. We would recommend it to anyone traveling through TN or Ak. Tomorrow we will almost make it through TN; at 472 miles.
