Heading out to hike Cedar Creek Trail For those of you who live in Wilson County...we can no longer say that we have most of the rock in the world. That title HAS to belong to the area in Arkansas known as Petit Jean State Park. We have never seen the beat. Rocks, and I mean BIG rocks, comprise a big part of this park.
We met up with “the kids” at 8:45 and headed out in their big blue truck to the trail head for Cedar Creek Trail. I think they were trying to kill us. Kim—if this is their time to check and see if we are still competent and yours and Mike’s is the next time—you can check with your sister and get what should be a good report on us. We kept up (with only a little help hauling my 74 year old self up a big rock step or two) with them on this “moderate” hike. I would like to have a conversation with who ever called it moderate by the way! At any rate, we had a beautiful hike/climb/crawl on this 1 1/4 mile trail. Below is how the park information describes it:
This trail winds
!!!???
Mike and Kim? MK? Tell us it ain’t so!! along a scenic section of the Cedar Creek above Cedar Falls. Constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the early 1930’s, this trail’s rock steps and bluffs create a few difficult (???!!!...ya think??) places. The rock mountain stream, high bluffs, and thick vegetation make Cedar Creek Trail perfect for experiencing local bird and plant life.
Just to prove that good things come to them who struggle, our precious daughter (favorite Texas daughter) and favorite Texas son in law had a wonderful lunch prepared for us when we drug (I mean joyfully marched) our over hiked selves back into camp. Yum! Tom had made smoked pork loin which they served on buns, chips, and pickles. I provided the coleslaw and it really did taste good after our busy morning.
The rest of our afternoon was low key...for me anyway! I said for them to “stick a fork in me as I was done”. I lounged around under the awning for a little while and then came back to Mufasa to work on this blog...which you likely won’t get until Monday at the earliest. John and Tom played corn hole and seemed to be having a
very good time.
At 6:00 Tom served all us up a delightful and delicious meal of brisket made in a Dutch oven over charcoal coals. It was magnificent! His “sauce” was made up of many delicious things including tomatoes, carrots, celery and tomato sauce. I think wine was also involved. What was also involved was over three hours of work getting the various parts to come together in one wonderful whole. We also had green beans and zucchini. Dessert was the crown of the entire meal. He made a “cherry dump cake” in the Dutch oven and it was great! Go Tom.
We called it a day around 9:00 and headed back to our home away from home for an early night. It was a good day.

Rock collection
My rock collection from digging in TN soil does look very insignificant next to your beautiful pictures. I'm glad I already did my 30 minutes on the elliptical, because I'm too exhausted to do it now after reading about your hike.
