I DID NOT HAVE SEXUAL RELATIONS WITH THAT WOMAN!

This morning we spent an hour or so just walking the streets near our B&B so Helli could take some pictures of the historic buildings. It is easy to get caught up in the stories that Vicksburg has to tell, from the paddle steamers to the wrought iron balconies on the old hotel and the canons that are on display still guarding the Mississippi river. The concrete levee has painted marks telling the flood water levels over the past hundred years, with simply overwhelming heights. Vicksburg is a town with such a rich and storied past and yet a very fragile future. Many of the neighborhoods are in disrepair and there isn’t a great deal of employment possibilities. The historic area of town is very quaint and there are a few buildings being converted to new condos. The town totally shuts down on Sundays. We were told that “this is the South, nothing opens on Sundays”. This was also very evident on our ride yesterday morning. The roads were very quiet but the parking lots of all the churches we passed were full.

Today’s journey took us through thousands of

acres of drying corn stalks. We are told that this is used for bio fuel as well as corn syrup and feed for the animals. The other crop I was surprised to see was sugar cane. This is used in ice cream, so we had to have some (see drive-in pics). Tonight, we are in Hot Springs, Arkansas, childhood home of Bill Clinton, and just 30 miles west of Little Rock, after leaving Mississippi and touching Louisiana on the way. Another 420 kilometers behind us. The heat has not let up, it reached 101 again today. Soon after we arrived there was a great thunder storm with some of the heaviest rain we have seen ( see pics). It’s another day I won’t have to wash the bikes. We are looking forward to some cooler air on the way home. We have not been below 90 degrees since Glacier National Park so we may need to go back there before we get home. Just 4000 k’s to go.

Elvis
You were so close. And you did not go to Memphis. You missed out on some amazing fantastic history in music in the Deep South. Just wondering if you are heading in our direction. We would love to see you only for an evening. Ride safe. Xo
