Petrified Forest

We saw part of the painted desert on the way and it was gorgeous, however the road was closed to most of it so we only got a glimpse. The petrified forest is technically in the painted desert but it was less "painted" than the rest. It was interesting to see as a phenomenon, but nothing like the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone.

Apparently the wood, which are really trees turned into rocks that were under layers of lava and other things, are 250 million years old. The age of the earth is really puzzling to me, since human's or at least homosapiens have only been around 6000 years.
