RUSTIC CAMPGROUND.
Destination: Tombstone, Arizona--February 2-3, 2007

After a wonderful first nights rest in our motorhome at Casita Verde RV park in Casa Grande, Arizona, we got on Interstate 10 and headed south 130 miles to the historic town of Tombstone, Arizona.

We pulled our motorhome into a nice rustic park that was within walking distance to the town, actually only 3 short blocks. Since we arrived later in the evening, we decided to settle into our motorhome for a nice peaceful sleep before hitting the town all day tomorrow. Actually, Ty and I wanted to walk to town to scope it out. We made dinner for the kids, put in a movie, put Jessica in charge and made our way to town. The weather was great as we strolled to a famous saloon called Big Nose Kate's Saloon. Big Nose Kate was famous because she owned and operated that saloon during the 1880's and was Doc Holidays girlfriend. We bellied up to the bar for a quick drink. Then on to dinner at a nice local restaurant. Finally we ended up at the Crystal Palace Saloon to listen and dance to a live band that played everything from country to

pop to rock music.

All 6 of us woke up rested and ready to conquer this historic little town. With jackets in hand we made our way to town. First we boarded a stagecoach for a quick tour of the town. Then off to Helldorado Town for a funny gunfight show. Next, we watched Texas Kate do some neat tricks on her horse. Texas Kate rescues abused animals and trains them to do all kinds of neat things. Off the lunch at Big Nose Kate's Saloon, which is also a restaurant and serves yummy food. It was Saturday and the place was packed. We had to eat fast so that we could watch the reenactment gunfight between the Earps and Clanton's at the O.K. Corral, which a famous movie was made about it called Tombstone. Finally, we strolled the streets browsing in the many shops. It was neat because many people were dressed up as they would have in the 1880's. What a fun day we had and what a neat town this is to see!

Here are some interesting facts we learned about Tombstone. Today the population is about 1,500 people and is a great example of

1880 western heritage. A man by the name of Ed Schiefflen discovered it, when he made it rich by mining silver and gold, which brought thousands of people to the area. It is said that Tombstone was as big as San Francisco back in the 1880's. For 7 years the mines produced millions of dollars of silver and gold. The town is referred to as the "Town too Tough to Die", because of the many fires it has endured. On October 26, 1881, the Earp brothers battled the Clantons at the O.K. Corral. There are many historic buildings. St. Paul's Espicopal Church was built in 1882. The Tombstone Epitah building is the oldest continuously published paper in Arizona still printed. Those are just some of the interesting facts we learned.

Off to bed we go with visions of the old west in our heads. Tomorrow is Superbowl Sunday and we aren't quite sure where we will be yet, but we will let you know when we get there..........
