Canyon
This is another picture from yesterday at the Grand Canyon We were all woken up this morning by a train passing through Williams at 3am using his extremely loud horn. This then happened again at 4am, 5am, 6am, 7am (I think you probably get the picture!) So by 8am we were all up and about getting ready to head back towards Albuquerque. Just as we left to load the car a thunderstorm joined us, and it absolutely poured down.
We drove about an hour down the road and turned off to head to Meteor City. About 6 miles from I-40 is the location of where a meteor hit the earth over 50,000 years ago. It's where they also trained the Apollo astronauts and it's the first proven, best-preserved meteorite crater on Earth according to the museum facts!
Shortly after we left Meteor City, we took Route 66 through St Joseph, and into Holbrook. This was to be our base for the night, with most of the afternoon still remaining we thought we would step up our accommadation, and find a hotel with an indoor pool and spa! We checked in, relaxed for a couple of hours and then went for a dip and finished off in the jacuzzi.
If you were wondering why our location is 'Painted Desert/Petrified Forest' Its because thats the nearest place to us they had listed, and also where we're heading tomorrow.
