After a long drive, I arrived in Lake Havasu City, Arizona! It's beautiful here, and what's better? The temperature was in the mid 80s and the humidity was non-existent. It's currently 79 degrees outside - not my ideal but the humidity is only 11% and I definitely love that. Austin, by comparison, is currently 71 degrees (and an hour later in the day) and has 61% humidity. And, since you're curious, Portland is currently 50 degrees with an unusual 79% humidity. I don't care what you say, Portland is still better 😊
I got a very early start this morning. I stayed at the Motel 6 in Las Cruces, NM and asked for a 6am wake-up call. I received the call and I remember checking the time on my cell phone and seeing it display 5:02am. My phone usually automatically displays the current time (meaning it detects changes in time zones or daylight savings time) so I had every reason to think it was 5am. But I remember the front desk guy confirming my 6am request. Also, I know that Arizona doesn't participate in daylight savings time, but I was still in New Mexico and to the best of my
Too close?
I don't know...something tells me this guy tapped my bumper when he parked... knowledge, New Mexico still does participate in daylight savings time. And, of course, I couldn't remember if I had adjusted my most trustworthy device - the watch on my wrist. Sure enough I both remembered and didn't remember changing the time. So, I started getting ready nonetheless.
I checked out of the motel and headed to get food and gas. For food I stopped at Whataburger - probably the last one I'll see on my trip home. And they sure did take their time making my breakfast. Just from random glances at the clock I noticed that I was in the drive thru at LEAST 8 minutes. And that's just the time at the window waiting for them to take my credit card and make just a breakfast taquito and a "breakfast on a bun" (hamburger bun with bacon, cheese, and egg, for those who've never been to Whataburger). As I pulled out of the drive thru the time read 6:32 - thus my drive began.
I drove just two miles down the road before pulling off at the Pilot station in Las Cruces in order to fill up on gas, get some water and snacks, and fill
Whataburger...
Good food...if you're willing to wait my tires up with air. Then it was back on the road headed for Lake Havasu. My next stop was for gas in Arizona at exit 208, I believe it was, in order to get gas. My gas gauge is very finicky so I have to pay attention to the number of miles driven rather than the gauge. When I pulled over I noticed a gas station that looked like it would make a good setting for a horror movie and I confirmed this when I pulled up to the station to see the price: $3.79/gallon! No wonder they didn't have any signs advertising their prices! It was at this point that I realized I had enough gas to make it a few more miles down the road to exit 200. Exit 200 is a town between Phoenix and Tucson named Casa Grande. So I filled up with gas, got back on the road heading west.
I arrived in Lake Havasu around 3:30pm. I found out yesterday that I wouldn't be able to stay with my aunt and uncle in the RV park they're staying in. Apparently the management for the park does not allow visitors to stay the
Island Inn
Very nice room! night - they don't even allow pets I found out later tonight. So I'm staying at the Island Inn Resort instead. It's actually a very nice hotel, and definitely worth the price ($45/night). I've spent more than this for a room half it's size...
After checking in my aunt and uncle arrived and we drove back to their place. It's actually a very nice place in the park. I suppose they're technically in a mobile home, definitely not an RV, but it's a very nice home at that. Some of the units by the water sold for $250,000+ so they aren't your average mobile homes 😊 My aunt and uncle are actually renting their unit for a few months, then they'll return to the NW for the Christmas season, and then go back to Lake Havasu from January through April. I have a feeling that they will return to the NW for a short time and end up in Lake Havasu for a few more months after that. As Uncle Larry would say while we are eating fish that was caught just hours ago, "We're roughing it." That's with sarcasm, by the way 😊
So we ate dinner
Island Inn-2
Not bad for $45 huh? at Barbara and Larry's, made some sandwiches for our fishing trip tomorrow, and played a couple hands of Jenga. Barbara lost the first game and I lost the second game so Larry was the only one not to lose. But that was a short lived victory considering he spilled some red wine on himself while trying to catch the Jenga stack that came crashing down on our final game.
I'm back at the hotel now and getting ready for bed. The plan for tomorrow is to go fishing (probably around 9am or so) and try to catch some more fish on Lake Havasu. And...that's about all we have planned at this time. Hopefully we will have some good luck finding fish tomorrow - Larry hasn't had a chance to find out quite where all the fish are hiding just yet.
Tomorrow night I'll be staying at the Island Inn again and then Wednesday morning I will be heading for Fresno to see my good friend Joe. That drive will only be about 6.5 hours or so, so it won't be a tough day. But, a week from tomorrow (11/13) I will be heading for the final leg of my trip and will drive the 11 to 12 hours from Fresno to Portland.
But for now...I'm tired from all the driving and the fun time I had with my aunt and uncle and I need to be up around 7am so...it's sleepy time...
