I'm doing this blog a little in reverse order to cover the most notable event first. Well it was bound to happen sooner or later and it did. The alternator on the RV seized up broke the belt and overheated the RV in the most isolated spot in Arizona along the NM border. Luckily, we've been keeping up with our Good Sam Roadside Assistance policy and it sure saved us here. It turns out nobody within 100 miles tows RVs, so Good Sam had to contract with a towing company about 130 miles from us to tow us back about 50 miles. Not sure what it cost, but it could not have been cheap. Anyway, the rig was dropped off at ACE Truck Service in Gallup NM a little before they closed for the day. The ... read more

Driving out of Las Vegas is just as surreal as driving in. Traffic near the strip is atrocious. Soon, a normal city replaces that unreal glittery world. The buildings gradually disappear to reveal rocky hills and desert scrub. Get gas in this stretch of highway, because prices go up quickly afterward. The buildings eventually fade away until the road is once again in empty desert. Over the last five days I have gone from empty nowhere to a fantasy world and back to empty nowhere. The highway reaches a ridge of red buttes. A weather-beaten building sits in front of them, with a sign reading “last chance gas”. The price is as bad as the Owens valley. Past the building, the road enters a ravine between the buttes. Soon afterward, it forks. Hoover Dam Until a ... read more

We have another special blog to post today. It is my Great Grandpa Bigham's birthday! As a career truck driver, we thought what better way to wish him a happy birthday (while on a road trip) than to photograph some of the big rigs we see on the road. So, Happy Birthday Grandpa Bigham and Keep on Truckin'. Love you and can't wait to see you soon! Love, Nicole (& Cody) ... read more

We stayed in the cowboy town of "Williams" on route 66. This is a place, where you can really have a good time. Just don't forget to pack your cowboy hat and join in with the fun.... Having left the gunfighters behind, we are making our way towards the "Hoover Dam". The temperature is now 103 and the heat is just so intense. It's impossible for us to walk great distances, without suffering heat exhaustion. (Being from England where it doesn't get much hotter than 80 at it's peak, we were suffering big time) We decided to stop overnight in "Kingman", just to recharge our batteries and take well deserved showers. The following morning we continued our journey......... By the time we reached the Hoover Dam, it was 113 degrees!!! "You could literally feel all ... read more

We went via the Hoover Dam en route to the Grand Canyon. Chris was keen to see this engineering wonderpiece! Here's some trivia for you..... it is the thickness of 2 football pitches (most likey American football)! The tour was interesting and it's an amazing structure to see and hear about how it was built. It also breaks up the journey!... read more

Greetings digital on-lookers! This shall be the hot live feed to my adventures in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. I intend to post my deep cathartic ramblings and stereotype shattering photography on this travel blog. I welcome you all to respond to my posts. It will surely help remind me of your delightful faces. These are some photos of a killer canoe trip I did last weekend on the Colorado River. The scenary was stunning and the company was great. It also gave me a chance to test out some of my new adventure gear. YEEHAW! p.s. - This entry serves more as a test/ultra rushed attempt at setting this up mere hours before I depart. More detailed posts surely to come! Yer pal, Brad ... read more

The weather in Vegas was much warmer than I was expecting, it was cool but not bitterly cold. In fact it was quite nice it being a bit cooler so walking the distances between the hotels was a bit easier. Today we left Vegas on a 5 hour drive towards the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. The route automatically goes through Hoover Dam - Hoover Dam is a big dam. I was surprised at the lack of barriers (being America!), it would have been fairly easy to hop over and slide right to the bottom. We were thinking that even though it was on a slight incline, it would still be steep enough for you to look a little beaten up at the bottom. One awesome thing though was the huge overflow holes on each ... read more
