Happy New Year everyone! Welcome to 2008!
Christmas has come and gone; we had a nice day spent with Sheila & Al and Clare & Matt at the house before we started to pack it up for the move. Turkey and all the trimmings! Even crackers with party hats!
Boxing Day we started to pack up the house; we've put all our stuff in storage as we have come up to the mountains for 3/4 weeks whilst we wait for the mortgage deal on our new house to close. So 5 days were spent packing, cleaning and moving furniture! We hired a storage unit about 1 mile down the road and filled that with some of our stuff. We also had a POD delivered to the house; it's basically a storage container that they drop on your driveway that you fill up and they come and take away. They will redeliver it to the new house when we are ready to move in.
So New Years Eve was spent with an inflatable mattress, a tv and a couple of bottles of bubbly! We were asleep by 10.30pm, but at least we had seen the New Year come in
The Cabin
A wrap-around deck Australia, New Zealand, UK, Argentina and New York! Even if we didn't manage to last until Midnight our time!
New Years Day, we left the house and headed up to Heber-Overgaard; a small town on the
Mogollon Rim 2.5 hours to the north east of Phoenix in the mountains. Our friends Gina and Dave have a lovely place up here; locally it's called a cabin but it's really a 2 bedroom house on about an acre in the forest. Use the zoom tool on the map to find us!
You may remember that we came up here in the summer for July 4th with Dave & Gina; we messed around on their ATVs out on the trails. The temperature was a little different then! We have rented the place from them for 3 weeks; it was a much better deal than trying to rent somewhere down in Phoenix and will make for a nice change. It's not a hardship; with satellite tv, wireless internet and a lovely fireplace we have all the comforts of home. The internet access also gives us the opportunity to do some work if any arises.
But it is cold! The temperature yesterday peaked
at 36f/2c and dropped to 9f/-13c last night! There is patchy snow on the ground from a storm about a week ago and more snow is forecast this weekend. We are at about 6000 feet in altitude so the air is clear and crisp!
If we get some more snow we will put up some new pics!
So our phones work up here and we have email and skype, so still in touch with the world! We will see how our mortgage deal progresses, but we hope to be back down the hill by around the 22nd, hoping to be in the house a few days later...
Wishing everyone a safe, healthy and prosperous 2008.
Love
Dave & Ginnie
