Box
There is a area called box with huge walls and narrow path to walk through Getting there
This was one long awaited and longest discussed trip. Also one of he most pre-planned because we had to get the permit 4 months in advance. And it was also one of the best trips. We had people coming from all over US, Sree and Srijan from Seattle, Tulika and Rahul from New York and Arindam and Surya from Boston. We all met at Flagstaff.
We found a Indian restaurant in Flagstaff and had very good food. Met Srijan and Sree there and then together drove to South Rim, Grand Canyon in the morning. I got first glimpse of the canyon there, it was vast! and we were going to go deep into it! From the top you cannot see the river at all and North rim was hardly visible. It was really really far and we were going to cover that distance on foot! wow! can we do it?
From South Rim, we took a charter van to drop up to North Rim where we were going to start our hike. It was a long drive and showed more wonders of the canyon. At North Rim, we stayed the night at Jacob's Lodge. It was
Almost out
Its not a background! We are really there. a cute little place, somewhat away from the rim. So we spent the time talking, playing cards, getting prepared.Next morning we took a taxi from Inn to the Rim to start our hike. The guy who drove us had of course done it many times, and had done it in a day too! We were going to take 4 days.
Day 1
We started from North Rim among lot of fog and smoke from recent forest fires. It hid any view of the valley from north side, but at the same time created this mystic effect! More details on my blog -

After 4 days into the canyon, finally reached south rim on a perfect day and in perfect condition. This was definitely one of my favourite trips, next only to Machu Pichhu. And it was not for lack of fun, but Inca trail was much more challenging and it had added charm of being on a different continent 😊
Back
Once back on the South Rim, we could think of nothing else but a good lunch and hot shower. Lunch we had on the way
Meteor site
A real and expensive disappointment at some Italian-Mexican place. Not recommended, should have gone to good old Olive Garden in flagstaff, or maybe Indian buffet. Back at hotel in flagstaff, it was great to get all the dirt off, clean the hair and get into nice warm, clean, fresh clothes. Needless to say, we were all tired but excited to have completed the trip with flying colours.
We had one more day in flagstaff, so we went to see Meteor crater site. Not recommended again, its a rip off and there is nothing to see. I have a cute photo of Srijan ( or of the museum from there). Later I realize we might have been better off staying at South Rim and taking in more views of the canyon next day. But that's ok, little miss planning here and there happens. It was a perfect trip otherwise.
