We are headed to Bisbee, AZ for the weekend with Larry, Henna, Bobbie, Annie and Denny. Bisbee is 82 miles southeast of Tucson.
Bisbee was founded as a copper, gold, and silver mining town in 1880, and named in honor of Judge DeWitt Bisbee, one of the financial backers of the adjacent Copper Queen Mine.
In 1929, the county seat was moved from Tombstone, Arizona to Bisbee, where it remains.
A syndicated television series which aired from 1956-1958, Sheriff of Cochise starring John Bromfield, was filmed in Bisbee.
Mining in the Mule Mountains proved quite successful: in the early 20th century the population of Bisbee soared. Incorporated in 1902, by 1910 its population swelled to 9,019 and it sported a constellation of suburbs, including Warren, Lowell, and San Jose, some of which had been founded on their own (ultimately less successful) mines. In 1917, open pit mining was successfully introduced to meet the heavy copper demand due to World War I.
High quality turquoise was a by-product of the copper mining and has been promoted as Bisbee Blue. Bisbee is noted for the astounding variety of copper-based minerals and the superb specimens that have been taken from its mines. Bisbee
specimens can be found in museums worldwide. Cuprite, aragonite, wulfenite, malachite, azurite, and galena are just a few of the myriad variety of minerals that have been found underneath the town. (from Wikipedia)
We left work at 2PM. We had the last minute stuff to do and we picked Henna up at 3PM. Larry was at a Spring Training game and would catch up with us on the road. He took his RV with him to the game so he wouldn’t have to go home to get it. Bobbie, Annie and Denny will arrive tomorrow around noon.
Larry called us as we got near downtown; he was leaving the game. He’d had enough; it was hot, they were losing. He was ahead of us on I-10. About 20 minutes later, Larry called and said he blew a tire on the RV. He was OK; he was changing the tire. He didn't need our help. We called him a while later and we are now ahead of him because he missed the exit. We arrived in Bisbee and missed the turn to the RV park; so we had to turn around; not always so easy with 60 feet.
We
arrive at the Queen Mine RV park and Larry arrives 3 minutes after us. The RV park sits on top of a hill overlooking the mine. Bisbee is beautiful. The mine is directly behind our space, Larry and Henna are up against a hill which provides a nice, cozy place for eating and socializing.
Once we get the RVs set up, we decide it is time for happy hour. We have some wine, beer, spirits, cheese, crackers, salsa and chips.
For dinner we grilled hamburgers on Larry's new grill. Ken brought the portable gas heater and we set that up in the middle of the gathering area behind Larry's RV. We enjoy a wonderful, simple dinner. The heater keeps us warm even as the temperature dips to the 50s. After dinner we retreat to our RV. As we walk back to the RV, we can see the lights in the homes nestled in the town. I don't even know what time it is, but we are tired. We read a bit and go to sleep.

COPPER QUEEN HOTEL
it's one of my favorite places to stay---love the lobby. Our daughter and son in law were married in Bisbee by a local Justice of the Peace, it was one of the nices ceremonies we ever heard. If no one has not gone thru the mine you really need to. have a great day!
