First off, this 22 hours of daylight thing is really hard on us old folks. The sun is still up when you go to bed and already shining when you wake up. Even when it’s “dark” for two hours it’s not really dark, just twilight, and there are 12 more days until the longest day of the year. No matter how much we blackout our little RV bedroom the light still creeps in and it wreaks havoc on your internal clock. You sleep because you’re tired, not because its night, but it does leave more daytime for fishing and this stop in Ninilchik was all about the fishing. Our first scheduled trip was for halibut and we drew a boat with Capt. Brian, the owner and operator of Afishunt Charters. Halibut fishing here is just like ... read more

We were very glad to get out of Seward because of the constant wind. We couldn't even sit outside to enjoy a campfire and the view after a nice dinner of Alaskan King Crab legs at Ray's Waterfront Restaurant. As we drove out of town this morning, the cruise ship Radiance of the Seas was in port. Holy Cow, is that thing ever big! It looked double the size of the ones that were in yesterday and the day before. I cannot even imagine the size of Allure or Oasis of the Seas, the largest cruise ships built to date. I just looked up the sizes: 2500 passengers for Radiance compared to 6300 passengers for Allure or Oasis - triple the size. Friday, 15th: Pretty uneventful/non-scenic drive (135 miles from Seward to Ninilchik) except for the ... read more

Water Sports Kel had done a doozy of a job when it came to planning our trip. Unlike our previous trips where we showed up in a country and did our best to figure out what to do once we got there, this time we (and by we, I mean she) were prepared. Almost every day we had an activity planned. And it all started with our first day in Anchor Point. Despite being totally inexperienced, we were booked for a 4 hour sea kayaking trip in the Cook Inlet off the coast from Homer. Our combined opinion of this activity will prove what wimps we are. We both had visions of us rolling the kayak in frigid Alaskan seas. The image in our heads went like this: Kel and I get ourselves wedged into ... read more
