Well i haven't updated in a while so here i go! So since last i've spent most of my time in Monterrey chillin, going to class and just living life. I climbed Cerro de la Silla, the symbol of Monterrey. It took the people i climbed with, and myself, a good 5.5 hours to climb up and back down again. We spent a total of about 8 hours on the mountain, counting our midway break, and our break at the very top. After Cerro school was back, and I got some tests back, the first one i got back was in fluids and it was a 76, which is just above failing here. The second, and last test i got back was in my thermodynamics class, I got a grand total of 50% on it. That's failing no matter where you go to school! So this just means that i have to go over my notes and stuff better, now i now what the tests are like, and i can understand their english better. So next time i should rock the house! I Hope!
During this week was St Valentine's Week, called Día de Amor y Amistad. At Tec they
go full out for this, which i fully wasn't expecting. They sold tons of chocolates, flowers, heart shaped things, balloons, toys, and here's the kicker.......live baby chicks! Yea like baby chickens! Now these things were pretty cute, but in a class they were annoying! One girl in one of my classes had one and i about kicked it out of the window! But other than that it was pretty sweet. Then came Valentine's Day. On Valentine's day i woke up late, watched 30 sec updates of the K-State - KU game, which we lost, and then went out to dinner with some friends. I was one of three not mexicans, and the only non-mormon. I had tons of fun, we went to Chile's which is delicious in mexico as well, then we headed home. The following sunday, I went to my first movie in mexico! We watched frente a frente, which is face to face. It was a good movie and i really enjoyed it.....the biggest difference between mexican and USA movie theaters is that #1 you can bring your own food into the theater, and that they sell Caramel corn!!! It was soo delicious!
Alright then i had
another week of classes, but it was shortened because a group of 7 friends and i went to Veracruz!! We left thursday at 4:30pm and came back Sunday at 12 pm. This trip was BALLIN!!! I loved it! We got there at around 10 or 11 thursday night and after getting some liquor we went to where the party was at. And boy were we right! Everything official for Carnaval that night was finished, but there were a ton of people just making music and dancing, tons of drinking, and oh yea i got offered drugs for the first time in my life. Despite the plethora of druggies and drunks, there were still some normal people as well. We got chatting with this group of guys from Vera Cruz who were really nice and cool to talk with. We had some talks and laughs then headed back to the hotel, which was Amazing! We woke up the next day around 12 or so and headed out to downtown to get some food and what not. Everything, I mean EVERYTHING, is in their downtown area! After eating we visited some remnants of an old fort from spanish conquistadors called El Fuerte
de Santiago. It was kinda small but not too bad, we had fun. After that we went to the coast and walked along it a little bit just enjoying it. We found an Artisans market that was Bank! I got a bit of gifts here for the ladies, mainly because there wasn't much variety other than jewelry here, but oh the choices of jewelry there was. I got a few gifts and then decided that i shouldn't spend more, before i spend all the money i had. As soon as we left we were deciding what to do, well a local helped us decide. He said that for 10 pesos, which is less than a dollar, if we throw it in the water he will dive in and get it. Well that was some awesome entertainment for 10 pesos! Soon thereafter we found people selling "fishing paddles" and bait. So some of the group bought some and started fishing. After two seconds of having her line in the water, Leah had caught a fish! Ended up being the only fish caught by us of the day. We then made our way to the Aquarium. That was really sweet, as soon
as you walked in there was a Toucan! How awesome!? We winded our way through the aquarium for maybe an hour or so, on the way finding Nemo, Dory, Gil, and the Bubbles!! Fish. Not to mention Bruce. Yea i know I'm a loser, but you know what? I'm in Vera Cruz and not you.....haha jk but seriously. Anyways after that half the group went back to the hotel and the remaining and me kept walking a little bit and got some Empanadas, a stuffed potatoe, the absolute BEST juice in the Universe, and some dessert. After stuffing ourselves, we found a taxi and made our way back as well. We had then decided that we all wanted to go to the fairgrounds that was right by the hotel, so we did! It was a lot of fun! Then we turned in for the night, but not before having hours of fun jumping of the beds and taking pictures of it! I bet the hotel crew really liked us. That brings us to saturday, The day of the first parade of Carnaval! But, that didn't start till 6 so what did we do till then you say? Well the only
logical answer! Sleep till noon and then chill by the awesome pool! Duh! So then we made it to carnaval and there's really no words to describe it. This was too cool of an experience! We tried to find seats but couldn't until one of the girls asked a lonely fellow on his balcony if we could join him. At first this seemed a little dangerous to me, but this guys was the coolest nicest guy i ever met! He opened his house and liquor to us and tried to have us not pay for the pizza that we ordered for dinner. Not to mention that he had the Sweetest view of Carnaval. This was a super awesome experience. Carnaval ended at about 10 so we headed back and went to bed after first ordering some hamburgers and what not from the hotel and watching you-tube movies. Got on our 8 am flight and came back to Monterrey!
What an Awesome trip I don't think that i could've asked for a better time!
Anyways, Until next time Live life and dream big, I know i will!
Beto
