Hotel Pool
This had the coolest bar ever! It was in the middle of the pool and you entered through water falls! Alright well i haven't updated in quite a while so I've got a lot to catch up on. I'll be doing about 3 or possibly 4 posts, and later a picture gallery because my camera's being stupid. So go on grab a snack and drink because this may get a little ugly. Also, women and children may need to leave the room due to intense typing. Just kidding but seriously i'm just stalling because this is going to be long, I might have to take a nap a third of the way, two thirds, and at the end. Alright enough Lolly Gaggin around time for business. So, let's start with my travel during the American Spring Break! I'll start a couple days before my trip.
The friday before the American Spring Break my sister came down to visit me from the States. Man, at that time she was a sight for sore eyes, a little bit of home. So she stayed here for a couple days and we hung out around the city and visited her host mom from when she studied abroad here a couple years ago. Then came sunday when she and I made our way early in
the morning to Puerto Vallerta to meet the rest of my family. Woohoo!! The only thing was that we got in at 10 in the morning and they didn't get in till 7 pm. Alright that's fine, i'm alright with that, we'll just wait and chill in the room and beach for that time. Except for what? The rooms not ready, and won't be for another two and a half to three hours? Sweet!...not. So we kept our luggage in a store room and then walked around the city for a few hours, and by city i mean we found a mall about 5 min away that we went and chilled in the Soriana (like Dillions) for a bit then went back and chilled in a waiting room, then walked around the hotel. The hotel by the way was Hotel Villa del Palmar, a very beautiful and comfy Hotel. It's the kind that makes you feel like you're rich for being able to afford it, when in reality that's not the case at all. While walking around we ran into several, and by several i mean at least 10, people from Manhattan, my hometown! What?!?! I guess all the seniors
wanted to spend there spring break in Puerto Vallerta, cool i guess vut how strange to run into so many in the Hotel that i was staying in! Anyways, we finally got into our room and then decided that we should cook dinner for when the rest of the family gets here. Good idea Ashley! But by we she of course meant me. That's okay I love to cook, and i get to test how good i am at cooking mexican meals. We had chicken tostadas! They were delicious if i do say so myself! So the family got in and it was a big hug-fest accompanied by a few tears by my mother. Typical, mom.
Got sleep on a pull-out couch that had two different levels, Oh well at least i have somewhere to sleep.
So woke up the next day at the bright and early hour of 11:30! I went to the beach where mom had been for several hours already, she likes to get there early and find a spot to sit all day long. So, went to join her for about two minutes before i had to jump into the ocean. Now that's a place
to be. So spent the day walking along the ocean and at night we went to the downtown area where there was tons of stuff. I'm talking about hundreds of shops, lots of statues, sand sculptures, buzzing markets, Restaurants, street performers, and of course the Papantla Flyers. These guys dressed up in some ritual clothing, climb up this giant pole, which represents the connection between earth and the Divine Creator, and start tying/wrapping rope around the pole, representing the umbilical cord of life. This is done while one is playing a drum and another playing a whistle (the two ancient forms of music). After they're done wrapping, all four of them get ready and then all the sudden fall off backwards! Attached to the wrapped ropes, they hang upside-down going in a circle, unravelling the rope around the pole, while playing the drums,, representing heartbeat, and whistle, representing lightning. This ritual is supposed to simulate birds flying. The flyers do 13 circles around the pole before finally reaching the ground. Why 13? Because the 4 flyers X the 13 circles = 52, the number of Venus, the morning star and her influence on the earth. Absolutely interesting stuff!
The
rest of the days were spent doing about the same stuff with little variations here and there, mostly a relaxing vacations on the beach. One of the days my brother and i did rent a jet ski for 30 min and took turns riding it on the ocean waves. This was SUPER thrilling for me, I got to give it gas and jump the waves! I only fell off once when I was stopped for a little bit looking back on shore checking to see if it was time to come in, when i gave the jet-ski some gas and fell off backwards. Haha! No big just get back on and have more fun! We also went to the markets that night, my favorite parts of Mexico and I got a blanket of Teotihuacan that i have had my eye on for a while! It had the Pyramid of the Sun in it and the Aztec Calendar in the middle, which reminds me that we're nearing the end of the Quinto Sol, which is the fifth sun, the fifth "life" which is supposed to mean the end of the world! So we'll see what turns up.
Anyways, the last
full day that Ashley and I had there we spent at a canopy adventure! It was with my Dad, Brother, and Sister. Mom is a little afraid of heights and loves to laze on the beach too much, where as i am an adventure kid. So we got to the place and they had 15 lines set up and the for Zip Lining! That's right, this canopy tour was a Zip Lining tour! The only not so awesome part was that we could bring our cameras just in case they got hit by something, or someone, while zipping through the trees. So we spent the next 2, 2 and a half hours going on the Awesome tour, flying through the trees on cords and feeling the rush of the breeze as you zipped all around. That was one of the most fun experiences that i have had!
After that exciting day it was time to head back to Monterrey, spend another last day with my sister in Mexico, then get back to school life! Which will be continued in my next blog in a few minutes of whenever you read it.
Until next time, Live life to the
fullest and without regrets!
