The last 24 hours have just been a complete sensory overload for me. I crossed the Mexican border around noon on October 8th. But I should back up a little first and talk about how I got here. With Erin leaving to play Volleyball at World Master's in Sydney, Australia, I decided to make another epic trip on my motorcycle. I originally thought it would be exciting to ride to a warmer clime during our Saskatchewan autumn. I looked at Vegas on the map as a possible destination. Then I noticed something else: Mexico was right there, just an inch and a half south of Vegas. It would be silly for me not to go. Day 347 - Thursday 11 September We arrived into Matamoros around lunchtime and im actually surprised at how big the place is. Its far bigger than any of the other border towns I've been too but like many of the others theres absolutely nothing to do here. As we were not crossing until tomorrow morning we checked into a nearby hotel. Its an absolute dive and not cheap but will do for the night. Note: The details here are woefully lacking. Most of the group was at the 2nd site, and so I don't know much about what they did (except that they were working on a classroom for special needs children... painting, installing insulation, doing trim-work, and so forth). This was my third mission trip to Mexico and second with First Presbyterian. As with last year, we spent two days in-transit to Valle Hermoso with a night stopover in Texas. I was exhausted most of the way down... up too early... drive all day. By the end of the first day (and being on the road over 15+ hours), a lot of us were not, um, in the best of spirits.
