So at the last minute we decided to leave Belize and head back up to Mexico in 1 day. We got up very early and jumped on the local chicken bus at 6:30am, which all use to be American school buses. The bus left and stopped every 100meters to pick people up along the way. The bus got very very full and the ride was very very bumpy. We did this first bus ride for 4 hours to Belize city. Here we jumped out with our luggage and asked when the next bus to Chetemal (Mexico) was? We were informed it left in 5 mins from platform 1. We ran to the platform and jumped on the 2nd chicken bus of the day with our luggage and it was more packed than the first. The bus station guards would not let the bus leave like this so we, minus our luggage were chucked off, i was a little scared but the bus driver said he would collect us outside the bus station. Which he did. We were standing up on this chicken bus which was even bumpier than the last! But gradually it emptied out and we managed to get a
seat. This journey would take us over the border. It was another 3 hours to reach the border crossing. As they go it was ok, had to pay and get my bags checked but the bus waited then drove us to Chetemal. Then we got a taxi to the main bus station. We were finally back in Mexico. We brought a bus ticket to get us to Tulum, we thought we had an hour to wait but when we went to board we found out that we had forgotton the 1 hour time difference and our bus had left! So after buying another bus ticket we boarded an ADO coach to Tulum. Because of the mix up we arrived in Tulum at 10pm and then walked around in the dark trying to find our hotel. We checked into our suite. We had decided to go for the room that had a kitchen this time. It wanlovely and has its own pool.
Day one in Tulum we chilled out on our balcony, played in the pool and read. In the afternoon we took a walk to the beach and saw the ruins which had huge lizards around it. We then
walked along the beach which is nice, bit crowded but lovely sand and clear water. We saw our first sea turtle! Sadly he was dead on the beach. Not nice. After a chilled walk we had some dinner and booked a dive for tomorow afternoon.
Day two. We spent the morning chilling out by the pool again then we met up with our dive master and another guy. We had booked to dive 2 of the Cenotes that are all around this area. The first dive was called Casa Cenote. This is a mangrove Cenote so we saw a bit of wildlife and the rock formations. It was a pretty strong current so bit of a hard dive. The second Cenote was amazing to look at called Grande Cenote. Amazing Stalagtights, Stalagmights and Coloumns. I was really nervous on this dive as i dont like to feel trapped when diving. Im glad i did it but think i will stick to reef diving from now on. More to see and i can go up when i like. Me and phill are really regretting not buying an under water camera now, but we still have the memories ourselves.
Day
three, we awoke early and caught a collectivo to Akumal beach. We arrived before all the other tourists and got in the water with very few other people to snorkel the bay. Finally i got to see sea turtles! There everywere at Akumal! Amazing! Saw a few more rays and a few fish to. The beach got really busy at lunch time and with the tempretures in the high 30s we decided to head for lunch at a lovely beach cafe. Then we headed back to pack and chill by the pool. Sadly i have burnt again factor 50 seems to do nothing and falling asleep under a palm tree did not help! But its only the tops of my legs and bottom of my back, should onlynlast a few days.
So we are all packed up and heading to our last destination in Mexico....
