7 Janvier 2008 - 10 Janvier 2008 Départ de Playa del Carmen en début d'apres-midi avec Alex,Marco et Carla (Jorge reste sur Playa et repartira à Mexico City plus tôt que nous).Aprés avoir longé la côte de la mer des Caraibes pendant environ 65km nous arrivons à Tulum qui marque l'extrémité sud de la Riviera Maya.Le village de Tulum en lui même n'a vraiment pas grand chose à offrir (Ah si un resto Argentin excellent).L'intérêt du lieu réside à quelques kilomètres du village,sur le bord étroit de la cote:environ 30m de plages,20m occupé par les hotels/paillotes,5m de route suivi par des kilomètres de jungle épaisse.Pour ceux qui on vu le film "La Chevre" et bien voila on y est en plein dedans!Mais Tulum est avant toute chose un site archeologique d'une ancienne cité Maya.L'âme des pierres y est presque palpable...
Nous n'avions rien réservé mais nous arrivons facilement à trouver un hotel-paillote parmi la trentaine qui longe la côte de Tulum (à noter qu'il y en avait moins de 5 il y a 3 ans de ça).Les prix des locations de paillotes ont été multipliés par 10 en quelques années (Alex payait 150 pesos/nuit/paillote il y'a 3
ans...nous en sommes à $140/nuit/paillote de deux personnes soit 1500 pesos!).Le cadre est sublime et d'une tranquilité saharienne.La population "Gucci-Gucci" de Playa del Carmen et Cancun se transforme en "Hippie-Gucci" pour quelques jours,histoires de se reposer après s'etre un peu trop encanaillé.Nos Jet Setters y trouvent un havre de paix dont ils semblent avoir bien besoin.Paillote aux couleurs locales:pas d'éléctricité et vraiment rien d'autre à faire que de s'impregner de la nature et du calme qui y reigne.Pas d'autre choix que de vivre au rythme du soleil.En bref Tulum est le lieu idéal pour se reposer et se retrouver un peu.

7th of January 2008 - 10th of Janaury 2008 Departure from Playa del Carmen in the early afternoon with Alex,Marco and Carla (Jorge is staying in Playa a bit more and will be returning to Mexico City sooner than us).After driving on the Caribbean Sea border for about 65km we arrive in Tulum which is kind of the southern frontier of the Riviera Maya.The village of Tulum doesn't have much to offer in itself (apart from a great Argentinian restaurant). The interesting part of Tulum is a few kilometers away on the narrow coast:30m of beach,20m for hotels/straw huts,5m for the road and then kilometers of thick jungle.But first of all Tulum is an archaeological site of the Maya civilization.
We hadn't booked anything in advance but we easily managed to rent 2 straw huts in one of the 30 hotels or so on the Tulum coast (interesting to know there were less than 5 of them about 3 years ago).Prices of the straw huts have been multiplied by 10 in the past few years (Alex paid 150 pesos/night/huts only 3 years ago...we were at $140/night/huts for 2 people which is 1500 pesos).Heavenly landscape for a dead quiet place.The "Gucci-Gucci" population from Playa del Carmen and Cancun is changing into "Hippy-Gucci" for a few days just so they can rest after all those excess. Peaceful harbor for our Jet Setters who seemed desperate for it.The straw huts are really basic,there's no electricity and nothing else to do than enjoying the nature and it's quietness.No choice but to live with the sun which is pretty cool.To summarize:Tulum is THE place to chill out and get yourself together.
