A stunning beach! It is great to be back on Isla!! This is our sixth visit to the island and 4th time back our same hotel - Chac Chi Suites. It's kind of like going to the lake as we are very familiar with the island and have gotten to know many of the locals through the years. It's amazing that most of them remember us from two years ago and we just pick up like we never left!!
Even though the island is much the same there have been many improvements and changes since we were here two years ago. Most of the changes are good however we hope that with progress it won't lose the small island feel. The roads and sidewalks have all had a facelift along with new pathways, statues and monuments. There are also lots of new restaurants. Tourism is certainly the main activity but you still get the true Mexican feel as the nearby colonials (neighbourhoods) reflect the local life style.
Since I did a blog in 2010 when we were here I will keep these ones brief, less frequent and try not to repeat the same stuff and pictures! If any of you are interested
in reading the 2010 blog you can find it at
www.islandvacation2010.blogspot.com The weather has been so beautiful - sunny and warm with a nice breeze. Of course our favourite activity is the beach and ocean which we visit each afternoon after we putter around our hotel and enjoy the pool in the morning. We walk about 5 km each day to and from the beach which fits in nicely to our much needed exercise program! I also bought a used bike and ride 16 km around the island every morning which I really enjoy. It is the perfect road for biking. Warren has downloaded an ap on his ipod where you can get any radio station in the world so we're listening to our home station C95. Whenever we miss being home the radio brings us back for awhile!!
We are really happy to have Gary and Carol back with us for two weeks on Isla. We get along great and have lots of fun. One of the things we enjoy is when we draw the name of a restaurant for supper each night. We put the names of places we like in a bag and take turns
picking. It saves the hastle of trying to choose a place every night! The restaurants are many and varied. Most of them are on Hildago St. which is the main touristy street close to the beach and ferry. There are a few local places there as well but most of them are in the colonials which is a short walk from where we are mid island. We frequent them as well where the food is authentic Mexican and very inexpensive.
A highlight for us this week was a birthday party for Ricardo who is the young man that works at our hotel office and looks after us very well! He turned 28 years old and were invited to his party that was held in the hotel courtyard. We have gotten to know him over the years and consider him a good "amigo". He has a girlfriend Patti and will be married in Dec. The hotel owners, manager, and other hotel staff came to the party as well as some of the other long term guests. It was interesting to see a birthday celebration in Mexico. Betty made a delicious ceviche and guacamole dip with nachos. Ricardo scooted down the
street for fresh toritillas from the bakery. We all sat close together around little tables and enjoyed the food. After, out came a cake and we sang Happy Birthday in Spanish, English and French and took photos. Much the same as we would celebrate. The cake was very good but quite different from our cakes. Most of the guest don't speak English but we managed to communicate a bit with the help of charades! Ricardo does very well with his English so he was able to translate some for us.
Well, that about it for now. Thanks for reading. Take Care

Have you tried diving off your room balcony into the pool?
