We have moved into our room at Las Mariposas. Our room is simply appointed, Mexican style, with a bed which has a soft matress which is quite a contrast to the hard beds we have been sleeping on. Our room is upstairs. To get up there, I have to pass by flowering purple bushes, and potted geraniums. We share a large sun filled patio area with two other suites The sun in the morning pours through our double doors warming up the tiles, which keeps the room warm throughout the night. As usual we have met interesting people here at the breakfast table. Every morning I wake up to the smell of coffee and the sounds of people talking down below. Yesterday, David and I walked to an organic farmers market, on the way there we stopped to listen to little children taking violin lessons. The market is in a courtyard where we go for the foreign movies. We bought homemade yogurt and there is a man from Italy, who comes from a small neighbouring town to sell his delicious baking, breads, pizzas, salads, cookies... We came home, laden with wonderful food, fortunately there is a fridge here in which we can store our food and cook it in the outdoor kitchen if we wish. We have also found the best place to have coffee in town, it is about 10 walk from our place. As you can see I am very content. In the afternoons we walk over to the park and do art, all around us is the fruit and cooking stands, dogs and children playing. Almost every night we go to a free concert at the main zocolo downtown. Last night the national Oaxacan band played music and accompanied a beautiful male singer. Women were dressed in tradional dress. Black velvet blouses and skirts that have large flowers of numerous bright colours hand embroidered on them. The full moon was out, people swayed and sang along with the man, and we were surrounded by the old colonial building and cathedrals of old Mexico. Tomorrow we will go on a day trip to the mountains with people here at the hotel and Tuesday we begin salsa classes and take a cooking class. Carol

HI all.. I snukt...sneeekt... ok,ok,ok took a quick look.... at the weather channel this morning.....my, my , my, you folks certainly have awful weather up where you are. Tomorrow morning, right after I go to the library and look up the correct spelling for the word..sneaked, I've got an appt'ment with a local bruja ... A witch... to see if we can conjure up a potion that Carol can drink..not me...that will...along with some incantations , cause the summer? like conditions that we are living under, to come your way. Also I'll ask her if there is some small thing that we can do to turn around the horendous debt that the Olympics will be costing you..Yikes! How will you ever begin to repay it? Now that we are living in Mexico, we feel so awful for you folks...........just a minuto...Carol wants me for something......what?.......oh, she says to stop being an ass and reminded me that we are coming back to Vancouver on the 23rd. .......damn!
