Well, here we are still in Huatulco waiting for a weather window to cross the fearsome Tuhuantepec (sp?), I'm not being facitious (sp?) either, it can be a dangerous passage if you just go whenever, so we sit in a nice marina and wait. It´s not too bad, as we have endless fresh water and electricity. It is unbelievably hot down here and we are taking cold showers 2 to 3 times a day to cool off. El Presidente came here today, but we didn´t see him as he was in the resort area south of us. Supposedly he is designating something like $300 million for this area for tourism development. As I left the last log entry, I still had quite a few photos to download from our trip from Manzanillo to Puerto Angel to ... read more

Well, here we are in Huatulco, after 600 or so miles south from La Cruz in Banderas Bay. It´s been a long time getting to a internet site to post our travels and photos. I hope I do our last 17 days justice, for we have done alot and seen alot. The photos will help, I´m sure. We left Punta Mita in the morning. Not much wind at first, then we got to about 15 miles off the coast, and a nice wind off our starboard quarter kicked in, and we were sailing along at 6 knots or so. It was rather lumpy, so it was a rocky and rolly trip. After 6-7 hours of this, we were hoping for the wind to lighten up a little, so we could rest, but Noooo...not for us....the wind ... read more

October 17, 2007 Done. We chose the cheap flight - Sunwing, leaving Nov. 26 - Will there be major delays, common when going with the discounters? Vamos a ver! We will see! December 2, 2007. Sunwing was good on the way out. Only 15 minutes late, smooth flight, landed on time, and a hot meal was served! Huatulco airport - The cab from the airport is allegedly 350 pesos ($35) but we waffled and loitered and asked about busses, then started to walk toward the main road. Suddenly we were offered a ride into town for $150 pesos, ($15). Much better. Budget hotels in Huatulco. They are in Crucecita and Santa Cruz, $1.60 by cab from one to the other. We paid $40 Canadian for a clean room in Mision Los Arcos in Crucecita, run by ... read more

Our last stop on the Oaxacan Coast was to Las Bahias de Hautulco. Las Bahias de Huaulco is Mexico's newest big coastal development project. This stretch of coast had just one small fishing village until the 1980's, but now within its nine bays, it is thriving. It seems the Mexican government has learned from its other developments on the coasts and this, if all goes according to plan, will be both a tourist and ecological paradise, in addition to employing thousands of local people, when complete by 2020. With the help of Carlos' cousin, Paola, once again, we were fortunate enough again to be able to stay at Las Brisas located in Bahia Tangolunda with a huge discount. Las Brisas is the former Club Med, so you can expect the same excellence from this place. The ... read more
