Hi guys,
Well here I am in Mexico for Thanksgiving with Dad, taking lots of pictures, and I thought I would share them with you (plus I get to color in another country on my "Places I've blogged from" map). I flew from Philadelphia to Houston, where I met Dad for our flight to Guadalajara. We got to the hotel, which is cute as can be, at about 9:15 p.m. and settled in. The next day Leno, our guide in Guadalajara for many years now, picked us up at 7:30 a.m. to drive three and a half hours into Michoacan, a state neigboring Jalisco (which is where Guadalajara is) to its capital of Morelia.

Morelia is a fantastic colonial city with great plazas, amazing churches, and a great atmosphere. We kind of pottered around Morelia for a bit (Dad did some shopping) before heading out to a dusty little town that is famous for Catrinas, or Day of the Dead dolls. Dad and I each picked up a couple (hey, when an 18 inch tall piece of artwork is only $25, you take the opportunity). One nice thing about Mexico (and in particular, travelling with Leno) is that you often

get to meet the artist of the peice you're buying. Dad and I got to go back into the workshop for where the dolls were made, and saw them being sculpted, painted, and fired. It was really neat.

We then moved on to this cute little town call Patzuco (I think that's how you spell it) where we had dinner at a restaurant with really really good salsa verde, and then wandered around the little shops and colonial style buildings for an hour or two. We finally returned to Tlaquepaque at 10:30 p.m. and plopped into bed. we had a suite the first night, but they moved us, so now I'm sleeping on a slightly dodgy air mattress on the floor. The mattress itself is fine, but it's twice as thick as a normal mattress, so it's a little unwieldy and I'm afraid it's going to tip over or I'm going to fall off every time I move. On the bright side, this room has a really fantastic bath tub, so I guess you take what you can get😊

Today we went to Tequila, but more on that in a separate entry.
