Overlooking the beautiful bay of Acapulco It was my second month since I start working for Celebrity Cruises. Everything was new and a whole new world embrace me and show me the road of wild adventures. I arrive in Acapulco by cruise ship and I only had limited time to get an appreciation for Acapulco. Wooow Acapulco..never in my dream I thought I will visit this exited city. Acapulco is sooo famous for its explosive night life, first-class hotels, postcard beaches and do not mention the breath-taking physical beauty of Acapulco.
Since we get out from the ship with some of my friends we were wondering what is there to visit in Acapulco. We didn't see much value in traveling with the ship's large bus where they take you to the beach , so we found a taxi driver who offer us a city tour.
This was actually very personalized tour. The fist stop was Galerias Diana Mall across the famous Emporio Hotel which was located in a prime spot on the strip. He told us that we have an hour to do a quick shopping and to have some lunch on the way. For the whole time he was waiting us outside at the

Unique tropical location to enjoy the most spectacular sunsets in the harbor parking. So we took our time to look around the shops and we completely forgot about the time limit 😊 Heloisa did lots of shopping so she was the last one waiting for. The driver wasn't mad of course. Anyway the tour was approximately 5 hours so we were not rush about anything.
Most of the visitors arriving to Acapulco hear about "Las Brisas". So do I. I was wondering where is it and what is there. The taxi driver took us there. On its way he explained that the term refer to the luxury "Las Brisas" Hotel, which rises up over Acapulco's bay on the eastern slope of ridge surrounding the city. Soon as we past Las Brisas Hotel we take the Scenic Highway "Carretera Escénica" to the famous neighborhood "Las Brisas". It is probably the wealthiest residential section of town, with multimillion dollar villas set into the hillside overlooking Acapulco's bay and facing the Golden Zone. We stop there to take some pictures. Acapulco remains the most beautiful bay on the Mexican Riviera. One misconception is that Las Brisas has good beaches. A small number of villas down the hill may have access to a small beach

Brazilian-Balkan friendship;
Barbara on the left, Bojan next to her and Heloisa on the right but in general, Las Brisas has no beachfront. This is actully compensated by the breathtaking views the area enjoys of Acapulco. Our driver was especially knowledgeable about the history and culture of the various places and spoke excellent English. We had complete freedom to construct our own tour itinerary.
After Las Brisas area with its magnificent bay views we decided to see Diego Rivera's mosaic mural and Los Flamingos Hotel which was actually former destination hotel of movie stars in the 50's and 60's. Diego Rivera is one of the country's most renowned artist who died more than 50 years ago and his name painting massive murals on buildings from Mexico City to New York City. The hidden treasure is not too hard to find. This may be the most unusual Diego Rivera piece toy will ever see although perhaps not his greatest. The locals keep int well maintained. Without a good understanding of Mexican culture you can still admire the work without the meanings of the underlying symbol. We were lucky having our local guide driver expelling the history and meaning, not only of its piece itself, but also the history of Diego Rivera, his wife Freida Kaho,
his fascinating lifestyle and more. Diego Rivera tell about history in his piece of art. I truly love the Diego Rivera wall mural mosaic but what really made it special was the love story behind the masterpiece, which our local guy shared with us. Everyone loves a good love story 😊 He was an inspiration… his paintings are interesting and remarkable. For now all you can do is drive by and see a mural. If you are fan of Diego Rivera, you must view this. They plan to open a museum in the future. This will be so worth viewing, once it opens.
After that we stop at the Los Flamingos Hotel which was located nearby Diego Rivera mosaic. This beautiful hotel was build in the 30's, located in the highest cliff in Acapulco to 150 meters high, with spectacular views out to sea and the island of "La Roqueta". History says that the hotel was sold to the famous "Gang Hollywood" in the 50's lead by John Wayne, Fred Mc Murray, Cary Grant, etc…who left traces and memories of their lives in the hotel.
At the end of our tour we decided to see the traditional attractions
Traditional mexican foodof the cliff divers. One cannot leave Acapulco without seeing this. Cliff divers at La Quebrada are a big part of Acapulco's heritage and tradition has obviously been passed on through generations of families. On the way to the cliff I admire the scenic lookout drive. The scene is breathtaking. Huge high cliffs and crushing white ocean spray at the bases. The ocean was deep blue and a bit rough that day. This truly is must see when in Acaplulco. If nothing else go to Acapulco just to see these amazing young men doing back flips from 60 meters above from cliff tops down into the ocean below. You truly have to respect the skill and courage involved. The divers in La Quebrada give an amazing show. They have shows at four time slots during the day. Unfortunately we were not lucky enough to see the show cause we run out of time and we needed to head back to the ship.
We were very tired on the way back to the cruise terminal and I felt very thankful that the driver show me a different prospective of the city. This tour was well worth the 50 dollars per
person, since we were taken by air conditioned car touring the area for 5 hours. All four of us were very happy and I would definitely recommended this to future tourists visiting Acapulco. The tour provided by this great man was very enjoyable and informative. He was always professional and his love for the city by the bay and love for his job is extraordinary. On the positive side, we’ve relaxed, bought a few nice things, seen some interesting sights and just had a good time. Still, if you want a low-cost, relaxing vacation in a tropical locale, keep Acapulco on your radar screen.
