And so began the next part of our adventure, on our own in mexico.... or not quite. On Sunday we caught a plane Tuxtla Guiterezz in Chiapis, a southern state of mexico. That morning Ale, rang her family in another town, San Cristobal, to ask about reccomending accomodation, and they kindly offered to have us stay for 4 nights. The grandparents and their daughter Rosio, all spoke limited English, however Rosio's daughter Kaori speaks very good english, and helped us with many translations. Beside the language differences, the family took us under there wing, and we will definitely come b ack to visit one day. Rosio and Kaori took us on tours of the town, which is very old and beautiful, booked us into tours, and made sure we has eaten all the food items written on our list that were traditional to Chiapis, also helping us write down the names, and general recipes.

On the monday we headed off on an all day tour. 6 am in the morning until 10pm at night. Chiapis is one of the most beautiful states in Mexico and has many amazing natural and archeological sites. We visited Agua Azul, enormous waterfalls, of an amzing light blue colour, Misol Ha, another waterful, which you can walk behind, and into connecting caves, and Palenque a ruined Mayan town in the jungle which has only recently been rediscovered. You are able to climb all over the buildings. In the jungle we could hear very loud agressive monkeys, but sceptic that i am, think it may be a tape recorder, to attract tourists.

On the Tuseday we had another day tour (not quite as long), to some more waterfalls, and ther lakes of montebello. All very beautiful. At the cascades i rode a flying fox over the water fall and back. Later at the lakes we made friend with a guy on our tour from monterrey (mexico) called Perro. No one on the tours speaks much english so we had to make friends with those who can. With him, lauren and i hired a guy to take us on a wooden raft acrossthe lake to a small island. It was lots of fun, but we were half an hr late getting back to the bus. One of the higlights of the day was a lookout near the lakes in which we could see the hills of guatemala in the background. We didnt realize we were so close!

As ive just written 2 blogs catchup im going to pass it over to lauren for the last couple of days
