This week we had Chuck McGill a friend of Kip's fly in for a weeks visit. We did some hiking and lots of visiting and he started me working on this blog.
We hiked over to Juncalito, from the dinghy dock via the back of the canals, over hill by the range markers, across the salt flats and down the beach to visit Dick and Heather at their palapa, then by the fig tree beach to the caves with the shrine, then back to Dick and Heather's for a cup of tea. The hike took about 4 hours.
Next hike was up Steinbeck canyon, with Bob and Morraine, and Susan and Wayne and Chuck and myself. This was after Sunday brunch at the clubhouse. This week was omelet day. You take two eggs, beat them up, place them in a quart freezer bag, and condiments, like cheese, green onions, ham or whatever, then zip them up. They are tossed into a big pot of boiling water for thirteen minutes. Voila! You have an omelet.
Served with casera sauce and tacos. Now about the hike,we drove up to the base of the canyon, walked along
heading down the ridge
Heading down the ridge on the Hart trail the viaduct at the base and then proceeded up the base of the watercourse. This in not really a walk, it is a scramble over very large boulders. The colors of the rocks and variety of types of rock are amazing. There is a lot of vegetation due to the presence of water near by. At the top of the canyon where we ended the hike there are some small bathtub sized pools of water
Our third hike was up the Hart Trail which begins on Rattlesnake beach. Kip and Chuck and I dinghy over to the beach. It was three oclock when we started so we enjoyed late afternoon melee melee light for the hike. It is a well defined trail on shale and lava rock. It took us an hour to go up and about 45 minutes down. We spend twenty minutes up at the top with a wonderful 360 degree view of the Gigantas, the mountain chain here, and of the harbour and surrounding islands, Coronado, Carmen, Danzante and various off shore rocks.
Chuck has been learning how to play backgammon, and he has challenged Kip to several games of Chess. We enjoyed several movies
puerto escondido from the top of the hill
Puerto Escondido from the top of the hill together, trips to town and lots of good eating and happy hours.
That’s all for this week.
