I woke in my hotel room at New Years as with most of my travels it took me a few seconds to realize where I was again. We had breakfast at the hotel before heading out to face Montreal once more. After talking to the concierge we found out a lot of places were closed on New Years Day but some museums should be open. Our first stop would be McGill university. It has a lovely campus right in the middle of the city. We wandered around the campus and Tamara talked about how she is considering attending this university. If she chooses to do that it would be a lovely place to live. We went next to the underground mall. Some background, Montreal has a whole city underneath it where you can shop, be entertained and wander the city underground. This is especially helpful because Montreal can have bad snowstorms. We went into the underground mall but were promptly told by this rude woman that nothing was open. Slightly disappointed we left and went back to the Metro.
The Montreal observatory which gives you a panoramic view of the city was open and we bought a joint ticket that
allowed us to go up the observatory and see the biodome for $37. The ride up the observatory and the view from up there is beautiful and well worth the price. The view was slightly obscured because it was a cloudy day. While up there I bought some trinkets for my niece/nephew. We than went to the Biodome which was right next to the observatory. The Biodome has multiple environments within ranging from jungle to forests to cold weather. It has a diverse collection of animals and we had a fun time wandering around and looking at the animals. My favourites were the otter which were so used to people they would actually pose for pictures. I will admit the penguins seemed kind of sad but I guess you have to expect that when they were transported far from there homes. The aquarium was full of fish and diving birds as well.
Before going on we went to Chinatown which is near the NotreDame Baslica. After a meal of Pho and rice we were off again. Oddly enough as we made our way back to the hotel we tried once again to extend our parking spot but the attendant
never showed up so we ended taking my car back to the hotel and getting valet parking. We were both tired at this point so we opted to drive to our last stop which was the St Joseph Oratory. It was only a 10 minute drive and it had free parking there as well. The Oratory is a church on top a hill. It reminds me a lot of Sacree Coeur in Paris. It was a bit of walk to get up there but we made it. The church inside is quite lovely but once again since it was winter not everything was open so we couldn't see everything. We made it to the 6th floor but the 7th and 8th floor were closed because of winter. It had been a busy 2nd day and tomorrow we would be heading home.
