first leg

It was half past ten Sunday morning, the nineth of November. All ends were tied up including the ones on the roof of the camper which held down our surfboards, camping supplies, and our fuel containers that were full at this time with Jet fuel. Camper locked down, dog secured, family and friends loaded in. Good bye Pemberton your beautiful mountains and your early morning wet fog. The truck is a ninety-three ford f-350, it runs on petro-diesel, bio-diesel and it is converted to also run on vegetable oil. Jet fuel is also able to be used. On occassion the truck would use some form of diesil or in this case jet fuel. For a brief period before turning off the engine to allow the lines to clear and for a brief period while starting the engine to allow the lines to warm up and the oil to flow. The jet fuel was donated. As is the goal with gathering used vegetable oil from a variety of sources and recycling/fitlering for our fuel as we travel.

Departing point Pemberton, B.C. Final destination point Costa Rica. The Pioners of the trip are a couple originaly from Regina, Saskatchewan. Shantel and Roguer.

I don't think she really knows how long she's going to be strapped in there for!
They also have a three year old daughter Anja and they are expecting a second child in May. Both have been to Costa Rica before. They wanted to see some more of Latin America and decided the challenge of an overland journey would be the way to go. Joining them are Emilie a friend they met the year before in Costa Rica, Emilie is from the BC as is Emilie's Partner, Domingo.

The first leg of the journey took us from Pemberton, B.C to Regina, Saskatchewan. Time with Family before departing on along term voyage. We Crossed the Rockies into Alberta, passing through Calgary and then continuing on the trans Canada past Medicine Hat and into Saskatchewan running along through Swift Current, Moose Jaw and then finaly Regina arriving in the afternoon on Wednesday the twelth of November. The scenery from province to province is dramatic as is the change in the weather. BC's wet coast, the Rockies imensity , the flatness and fog of the prairies. It was all spectacular. This first run we completed mostly on the donated jet fuel, we also purchased Petro-diesel. We did make one short run on the recycled vegetable oil but more fine tunning is needed in Regina to figure out our pre-filtering system and time to gather used oil. We are all determend, positive and look forward to telling you more.
