August 30/31 - The Gaspe Peninsula of Quebec Followed Highway 20 up the South side of the Saint Lawrence with our destination in mind for the evening to be at Gaspe. This area of the Gaspe Peninsula of Quebec is call the Bas Saint Laurent. Originally the Basque people from France were here to hunt wales even before Cartier arrived in the 1500’s. We have scenic views of the river as it widens the further east we travel. Little towns and farms populate the roadside continually so it seems there are always buildings in view. The farms are close together and they seem very modest in size. The buildings are old, but the houses appear well kept. The standard of living in Quebec seems to be modest on the whole, as even newer houses seem quite ... read more

Can't believe it, found wireless internet at a campground. We are now in New Brunswick at the Hopewell Cape to see the largest tides in the world, but this episode of the blog will take you back to where we left you as you are running a few days behind us...... August 28/29/30 - Quebec City Parked in Old Quebec Lower Town near the port. Quebec City is built on a very steep hill. We walked uphill to the information centre in Old Upper Town which was near the beautiful hotel Chateau Frontenac. It is as June said “like walking into another world.” The architecture of the century old buildings is really beautiful. Old Upper Town is surrounded by the “old wall” - 4km around and you can walk on top of it. We opted for ... read more

Here goes our first attempt on the Travel Blog. Camper's packed and we are ready. Maritimes here we come! For a great Canadian blog check out VIA rails website: http://www.canadatravelblog.ca/en_index.html We have had a beautiful summer here at the lake in southern Saskatchewan where we live. What a great place to live - golfing, fishing and great people. Our kids were here for two great weeks too! But, with summer nearing it's end, we look forward to seeing the beautiful fall colors down east that many have told us about. Our itinerary: First to Yorkton to say goodbye to the grandkids. Then southeast through Manitoba and into the US. We'll pass through Sault Ste. Marie and on to Ottawa for first sightseeing stop. On to Quebec, where in Montreal, we will visit June and Keith. Through ... read more

Odometer: 42920 km The travel is all familiar, old ground, from here to home in Calgary. The temptation will be to ride through it with out taking notice of anything, thinking that I know everything there is to know about the country here. I’ll have to overcome that numbness and try to keep my senses as alert as they have been for the rest of the trip. My plan is to travel on the TransCanada to Indian Head; slip over to the Qu’Appelle Valley and past Katepwa, the location of our cottage back in the forties; through Labret; breakfast in Fort Qu’Appelle and hopefully a chance to meet Donna Caruso, a videographer I admire; and, finally, slip into Regina by early afternoon. This morning my sleep came to an abrupt end with a loud banging that ... read more

Well my fellow bog readers. I have been so freaking slack. Ive been home a month and I havent done "My final words about ASIA" article. Damn i can't believe Im home already. Ummm Thailand was really cool. I think my favorite country was Laos. I would go back there in 2 seconds flat. I miss Australia the most. I already want to go back and I have only been here a MONTH! I think next on my list of adventures will be a 3 point, 3 country dive journey. Thats when I come back from Wales/England. Sigh! Going backpacking doesnt hold off the travel bug. It feeds it so that it grows into this hungry monsterous giant to which I must obey! ... read more

Introduction This canoe trip in northern Saskatchewan runs from Paull Lake down the Paull River to the Churchill River and terminates in Missinipe. Paull Lake is accessed by float plane. The paull is a tributary of the Churchill. In some years, the water levels can be low enough to make this trip difficult. Not this year. In fact, some portages were washed out. For any canoe trip in northern Saskatchewan, the missinipe canoe outfitters, , are highly recommended for supplies and advice. July 31, 2006 We were dropped on a beach on Paull Lake. From there we paddled almost 20km to our first campsite on our first day. This was pretty hard on the girls first trip. They were worn but they made it. We also had a hard time finding a recommended campsite at a ... read more

Moose Jaw! Saskatchewan, fun to say, difficult to spell! Today we saw fields and more fields. I miss the rocky outcroppings and inukshuks. We did stop and see the World's Biggest Moose! It is a male moose too. Really! They just hang there. Horty needs to get to a wedding in Edmonton so we are just zipping by! I would love to stop and smell the roses...or moose balls.... read more

Off I go to Japan... I'm still in preparation, anxiety mode as I count down the days to my departure for Japan. 16 to be exact. My checklist of Things To Do Before I Go To Japan is far from complete. Still many loved ones to visit, appointments to make, shit to pack, and nerves to conquer. I am obviously excited, and at the same time getting very sad, as I love my family, friends, work,... country. There is a lot that I am leaving behind and that I will miss dearly. But I know that there will be much to find. I am looking forward to sharing with you My Adventures in Japan. Don't miss me too much... but do miss me some.... read more

The day started cloudy and cool. Odometer was 30533. I went into a local cafe for breakfast and found the local 'gang' of men in there eating and catching up. It was a typical prairie guy atmosphere, with muted conversation and stoic looks on their faces. Even though there was a lot of conversation going on you could hear a pin drop. Next door to the cafe was the Dairy Bar with the miniature golf that we went with the boys back in the 80s. On that trip we went to Katepwa and Regina Beach. I have good memories of that time together. It was in Swift Current that Cameron got up the nerve to go on the water slide in the motel. I'm sure you realize that, once started, we had to drag both he ... read more
